Steering position

It is after almost fifty years that the Mustang will once again be seen in a right hand drive model from the factory. The one before this was way back in 1965 when the original Mustang was also prepared to be sold in the UK, which, like India, follows a right hand drive configuration.

Engine

Muscle cars have always been about the V8 rumble which can shake the very foundation of a skyscraper. And Mustang being the icon it is, is incomplete without its 5.0-litre V8. This will be the only engine available in India, to maintain the car’s exclusive and premium status. It makes 435PS of max power and 542Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which comes with paddle shifters for manual gearshifts.

Performance features

The GT comes with a host of performance features like launch control, electronic line-lock which essentially lets you burn up your rear tyres by locking the front brakes, four selectable driving modes, namely road, gravel, snow and sport. It also boasts of a selectable-effort power assisted steering. Other safety features like dual stage front, knee and side airbags, Advance Trac electronic stability control, and independent tyre monitoring system are all offered as standard on the GT model

Price

Though the price remains elusive, we speculate that since the whole point of a pony car is an affordable machine with a rather large and great sounding engine, the Mustang could very well be priced under the 1.0 crore mark. So for under Rs 1.0 crore you could get an icon of a car with a monstrous V8 motor and some serious road presence, a concoction that isn’t easily found.

Legacy

Driving a Mustang isn’t just about driving a powerful car. When you buy a Mustang you’re buying into a legacy that has stretched out over five decades. The super long bonnet, a coupe roof line, the angry looking face and an ill-tempered demeanor are all essentials of a muscle car and the Mustang is no exception. Yes, it might not be the best performance car out there and would most likely be overtaken by a Cayman on just the third corner of any track, but what it might lack in performance it more than makes up for it with its iconic status and the utter refusal to take itself too seriously.
