The Toyota luxury sedan will get an update at the 2014 New York International auto show

Toyota Camry Hybrid

Toyota has announced that it will make an important announcement about the new Camry at the 2014 New York International Auto Show in a few weeks time. Chances are, it is most likely going to be a facelift that was on the cards for the popular premium luxury sedan.

The Camry is the best selling sedan in the USA for over a decade now. Last year it sold over 400,000 units there and so it’s Toyota’s most important car in the country. Keeping it fresh in the eyes of the large customer base is important for Toyota but there is one more thing equally important - keeping everyone guessing. To build up enough suspense before the unveiling, the Japanese carmaker hasn’t revealed any more details on the update.

While the Camry in the USA is a bread and butter model, in India it is a premium luxury sedan that’s sold less than 300 units in the last year. So don’t expect Toyota to launch the updated Camry in a hurry in India.

In India, Toyota sells the 2.5-litre petrol automatic and the hybrid Camry. The petrol produces 181PS of power and 233Nm of torque. In the Hybrid, the same unit is a bit detuned at 160PS and 213Nm torque but mated to the fairly powerful 143PS electric motor that develops a healthy 270Nm of torque, the maximum output stands at 205PS.
