2015 Skoda Fabia to enter production

The new 2015 Skoda Fabia has been teased several times, but the Czech carmaker is in no mood to reveal the car in full form until the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Although Skoda has kept its third generation supermini under wraps the Czech carmaker has geared up to start production of this new car from the end of this month at its manufacturing facility at Mlada Boleslav near Prague.

Preparations for production start-up will take place at the carmaker’s headquarters during the factory’s holiday downtime between August 4 –15. During this downtime the paint shop will be expanded and modernised, while the final zone of the assembly line will be modified, and new robots are expected to be added.

According to Michael Oeljeklaus, Skoda Board Member for Production and Logistics, the company shall use the non-production days to further optimise production to be able to respond to increasing consumer demand for Skoda models.

The new 2015 Skoda Fabia will be based on a revised PQ25 platform instead of Volkswagen’s MQB platform. This is a conscious decision taken by the Czech carmaker to keep the price of its new car in control.  The engines and transmission units will be carried over from the new Volkswagen Polo.

This five-door hatchback will flaunt a sharper design and will carry a similar design language as seen on the new Skoda Rapid and Skoda Octavia. The world premiere of the new 2015 Skoda Fabia will take place at the Paris Auto Show this October.
