After a long wait Ford has finally introduced the new generation Figo hatchback. The American car maker has priced the Figo starting Rs 4.29 lakhs for the base petrol variant and Rs 5.29 lakhs for the top-of-the-line diesel. Since its launch in 2010 Ford has only given the Figo a minor facelift in 2012. This though is the all-new generation Figo Hatchback, which shares its platform with the recently launched Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan.
From the front, the Figo hatchback looks quite similar to the compact sedan Figo Aspire. It has the same grille, headlamps and identical looking bumpers too. The rear though is quite unique with its flowing tail lamps and the smooth crease on the boot lid.
The Ford Figo will be offered in petrol as well as Diesel engine options. It comes with a 1.2-litre petrol unit that makes 88PS of peak power and 102Nm of max torque that returns 18.16kmpl of fuel mileage according to test figures. Ford has also brought in a 1.5-liter diesel unit, identical to the one on its compact sedan sibling. It makes 100PS and 204Nm and according to ARAI test results for fuel mileage, it gets 25.83kmpl. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Ford will also offer an automatic petrol variant with a 1.5-liter unit that is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch transmission.
In terms of features, Ford offers ABS and Airbags in terms of safety. In fact, the top-end trim will get 6 airbags, segment first. The higher variants though get more equipment including steering mounted controls, parking sensors, USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. It also comes with electrically adjustable ORVMs and a flat folding rear seat. Like the Figo Aspire, the Figo too will come with a ‘plus’ variant that will sport leather seats, the voice command Sync Applink and a multi-function display. While all versions of the Ford figo get airbags, the base versions will get only one drivers airbag. All other variants will get two front airbags.
In the Indian market, the Figo competes against some very able competitors including the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10, and the Tata Bolt. However, the Figo does earn an advantage considering that it gets essential safety features as standard figment, comes with attractive design and great driving dynamics Ford India is known for.
