Kawasaki will launch the Kawasaki Z250 equipped with ABS and slipper clutch in the Southeast Asian market

Kawasaki Z250

Kawasaki is all-set to upgrade the Z250 streetbike for 2015. For this purpose, the Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer will equip the Z250 with ABS and slipper clutch as a standard offering. Until now the Kawasaki Z250 was offered with ABS and slipper clutch only in the Japanese two-wheeler market but the updated version of the bike will be launched in other Southeast Asian markets as well from 2015 onwards. We recently reviewed the Kawasaki Z250 (story link) and in one of the shortcoming for the bike we had mentioned was the lack of ABS. Given the fact that slipper clutch was standard on the Kawasaki Ninja 300 it’s a good move to offer it on the Kawasaki Z250.

But all these additions will surely jack up the pricing of the already expensive Kawasaki Z250 which retails for Rs 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). At this price point the Z250 is just Rs 60,000 cheaper than the Ninja 300 which has slipper clutch as standard along with better power and torque figures. It isn’t clear whether Kawasaki India will bring in the updated 2015 Kawasaki Z250 into the Indian two-wheeler market given its pricing.

No updates have been made on the mechanical front, as the Kawasaki Z250 is powered by a 249cc; liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine developing max power of 32PS at 11,000rpm and peak torque of 21Nm at 10,000rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear-wheel via a six-speed gearbox. The chassis is a diamond type steel frame as seen on the first Kawasaki offering for our market, the Ninja 250R. The motorcycle uses 37mm telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear to handle suspension duties. The ABS version of the bike will be 2kg heavier than the standard bike.
