BMW M235i

In a move that should serve to bolster the BMW 2 Series' appeal in northern states, the German carmaker has confirmed that it will introduce an xDrive all-wheel-drive option on the coupe range for the 2015 model year in US. The German carmaker will add the BMW 228i xDrive and BMW M235i xDrive models to its 2 Series lineup. These cars are currently available only as rear-wheel-drive coupes.

Opting for an all-wheel-drive will cost approximately Rs 1.07 lakh more than the price of the current 2015 BMW 2 Series models in the US market. The 2015 BMW 228i, which is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine making 240PS of power and 345Nm of torque will now be priced at Rs 20.65 lakh approximately in US.

The 2015 BMW M235i xDrive with an all-wheel-drive system will come with a price tag of Rs 27.20 lakh approximately in US. The 2015 BMW M235i is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine which produces 320PS of power and 450Nm of torque. According to BMW, the M235i xDrive equipped with an eight-speed automatic will sprint from 0-100kmph in just 4.6 seconds, which is 0.2 of a second quicker than the rear-wheel-drive model.

The 2015 model year will also bring a new track handling package for the BMW 228i. Offered on both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) coupes, it includes a 10mm lower ride height, an adaptive M Suspension, variable sport steering, M sport brakes and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres on 18-inch wheels.

The 2015 BMW 2 Series with an all-wheel-drive-system is expected to arrive at dealerships in US before the end of 2014.
