2015 Audi A6 in action

We will be driving the refreshed 2015 Audi A6 soon but before we know how it is to drive, let’s take a look at the features the new A6 comes with to lure premium car buyers to Audi showrooms.  And that is precisely what the facelift aims to do with a host of added features.

The big change to the new A6 is the new Matrix LED lighting system that almost every new Audi is coming with. The headlight cluster is the same one seen on the RS6 Avant. The Matrix beam headlights are a complex structure built of various components. Behind the headlamp trim and twin fibre optic daytime running lights is a Matrix LED unit on the inside, while a low beam and cornering light is on the outside. A set of LEDs that form the Matrix beam can individually switch on and off when it detects a light source in front of it. Audi says that more than a billion lighting combinations are available. The Matrix lights essentially prevent dazzle to oncoming vehicles while lighting up the vacant field of vision.

Besides the fantastic set on new lights that are standard on the new A6, the taillamp cluster has been revised as well to get a new set of swiping turn indicators. Move into the A6 and you are welcomed by a new Touchscreen MMI infotainment system. The 20.32 cm monitor comes with inbuilt satellite navigation and a voice command system. There’s a remote control for the rear passengers to access this new entertainment system too. A 600 watt bose surround sound system does entertainment duties.

You now get three Italian leather upholstery choices as well – black, beige and brown. Front seats are electrically adjustable and the driver’s side seat gets memory function as well. The front passenger seat can be moved ahead from the rear to free up legroom for the rear passenger and the A6 comes with four zone automatic climate control too.

The A6 now comes with only one variant, the 35 TDI in top trim. The 4-cylinder inline turbocharged diesel engine develops 193PS of power from 3,800-4,200 rpm and 400Nm of peak torque from 1,750-3,000 rpm. It comes mated to a 7-speed S tronic automatic gearbox sending power to the front wheels. The A6 can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 8.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 232kmph. With a 75 litre fuel tank and an ARAI rated efficiency figure of 18.53kmpl, the A6 can theoretically do 1390km on a single tank of diesel.

Best economy figures can be achieved by putting the Audi drive select in the most efficient setting. Different modes include - auto, comfort, dynamic, efficiency, and individual – allowing you to adjust the vehicle's characteristics by adapting the power steering assistance, engine or gear changing characteristics and adaptive air suspension. The efficiency mode shifts the engine, transmission, climate control or cruise control to a more fuel efficient setting. Dynamic mode gives you most power, quickest shifts and a stiffer and sportier suspension setting.

The A6 is priced at Rs 49.5 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, comfortably undercutting its rivals in this segment. It is also the most fuel efficient and now comes with a bunch of new features that should help Audi attract a lot more buyers to showrooms.
