British rider Cal Crutchlow will leave the Italian outfit to race for LCR Honda for the 2015 season of MotoGP

Ducati has announced that Cal Crutchlow will be leaving the Italian outfit for LCR Honda in the 2015 season of MotoGP. This announcement comes within a week of the British rider proclaiming that he will be staying with the Ducati factory team at the World Ducati Week. But soon after the situation changed as Crutchlow’s manager Bob Moore negotiating with Ducati management to explore additional options and Ducati decided to release the British rider. This move doesn’t really come as a surprise as Crutchlow wasn’t happy with the dynamics of the Desmosedici and had been vocal about his displeasure with the bike.

Crutchlow isn’t the first rider to leave Ducati as Marco Melandri and Valentino Rossi left the team owing to the same reason and only Nicky Hayden was the rider who was successful in adapting his riding style to the infamously difficult Desmosedici as he won the championship in 2007 season. Additionally Ducati also wanted to field an all-Italian line up for the 2015 season and with Crutchlow exiting it is obvious that Andrea Iannone will replace him so this move is a win-win situation for both the rider and the Italian team. Iannone would partner with Andrea Dovizioso at Ducati for next season of MotoGP.

As for Crutchlow, he was very close on signing a deal with LCR Honda last year before Ducati swayed him away and now with a British brand being the main sponsor for LCR, Crutchlow will be given priority over his team-mate. The impact of this deal can only be gauged when Crutchlow rides on the Honda bike during pre-season testing by end of year but overall it looks like a positive move for the British rider.
