The new Chrysler 300 SRT8 is not just redesigned from the outside, with a new 6.4litre V8 it gets a new power plant as well

The latest high performance entry from the house of Chrysler is the new 300 SRT8 that was revealed at the New York Auto Show today. The car hosts a new 6.4litre 465 horsepower engine with 629Nm of torque. The powerful new V8 retains the same 5-speet automated gearbox but wheel mounted paddle-shifters are an added feature. This power making machine should allow the car to reach a 100km/h in less than five seconds and the capability of covering a quarter mile in a 12 second bracket.

The faster a car can go, the more powerful the brakes need be. The American car manufacturers have fitted the machine with 14.2inch front rotors and 13.8 inch discs at the rear which are capable to bring to standstill from a 100km/h in nearly 120feet.

The new active valve exhaust system allows the engine to reduce the use of the cylinders to four and hence increase fuel efficiency. Suspensions also get a new feel in the Chrysler 300 with Adaptive Damping Suspension that gauges vehicle speed, steering speed and angles, throttle position and acceleration to tweak the shocks according to the need of the hour. Adding more to the list the driver can also choose between Auto and Sports mode that has pre-set damper settings for enhanced comfort.

The New Chrysler 300SRT8

SRT badging all around and heated steering wheel like the newly launched Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 are some of the standard features. Other features on the inside include an Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) that measures quarter mile speeds, one eighth mile as well as the braking distances.

Safety of the driver is also going to be of utmost priority in the Chrysler 300 SRT8 with electronic stability control (ESC) with segment exclusive Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support showing the manufacturers importance to the customers’ safety.

Designed to be a power packed luxurious sedan, this Chrysler will be available at the showrooms in the third quarter of the year.  Chrysler will hope that their new version will also have as much of a mass appeal as its 2005 launched Chrysler 300.
