German automobile major, Volkswagen has recently inaugurated a new facility in India called Volkswagen Group IT Regional Competency Centre (RCC). The new centre is located at Hinjewadi, Pune and will cater to the global IT requirements of all brands under the Volkswagen Group across the world.
Information Technology (IT) is an integral part of automotive industry and is used right from conceptualising future projects to sourcing of parts to production processes, all the way to sales and after sales service.
The idea behind setting up the new centre is to source IT solutions for the Volkswagen Group in house and to keep business critical process knowledge and technological know-how within the group.
This is the first Volkswagen RCC to be based in India, since the other two centres are located in Europe and North America. Catering to the global operations of all the brands of Volkswagen Group, the RCC is expected to bring in foreign revenue besides creating employment for IT professionals of India. The Pune centre currently employees over 100 IT professionals and the company hopes that this number will grow over the coming years.
Milan Kumar, Head of Volkswagen Group IT RCC, stated, “India has a huge and highly qualified IT talent pool. With our RCC here in Pune we would like to utilise this potential towards cost-effective and secure IT developments for the whole Volkswagen Group. It will further add value to the core business of Volkswagen Group and deliver world class results.”
The Volkswagen Group IT RCC was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Martin Hofmann, CIO Volkswagen Group IT and Mahesh Kodumudi, Chief Representative, Volkswagen Group India. Mahesh Kodumudi, Chief Representative, Volkswagen Group India commented, “With the RCC, Volkswagen Group India has taken the next step in expanding its operations in India. We already have the expertise in building cars for the world. We will now also provide IT support to global locations through our centre and underline our belief in India with this long term commitment.”
