Good demand for Bolt and Zest negates fall in sales of SUVs for the Indian carmaker

Car sales up in February 2015 for Tata Motors

Tata Motors is on a recovery path from the abysmal few years it experienced before the launch of the Zest. The company posted a rise in sales of 22 percent in the month of February, selling a total of 13,767 units compared to 11,325 units in the same period last year.

The Indian carmaker attributes this sales spike to the Zest compact sedan and the recent introduction of the Bolt hatchback. These two new products were instrumental in a sales rise of 31 percent in February among the company’s passenger car portfolio.

The impact of a gradual but steady decline in UV sales for cars like the Safari Storme and Aria has been negated by the strong sales of the Zest and Bolt. UV sales declined by 15 percent, posting 1,962 units in February 2015.

In the eleven months of this financial year, total passenger car sales for Tata Motors is still 5 percent lower than the previous year but we expect this number to improve by the end of the March. Total sales stood at 119,041 units.

Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales are back on the right track and on the road to recovery. Sales grew 11 percent in February to 26,547 units.
