Honda Amaze and City sales lead charge for the carmaker as Mobilio numbers decline. The Japanese carmaker posts a total growth of 44 percent this Financial year

Honda car sales rise 16 percent in February 2015

With just a month left for the end of this financial year, Honda Cars India is on its way to post its best ever sales figures of over 1.8 lakh units. As things stand, the Japanese carmaker has already sold a shade of 1.66 lakh units, a growth of 44 percent over the same period last year. Honda sold 1.15 lakh units in the corresponding period in FY 2013-14.

Leading the charge is Honda’s compact sedan, the Amaze, which continues to grow strong due to its diesel variant’s class leading power and economy figures. Honda sold 7,163 units of the Amaze in February. Maruti has updated the Dzire last month, the strongest selling sedan in the segment. We will have to see if Honda can continue this momentum with fresher competition around.

The City is the highest selling car in its segment clocking 6,505 units in the month of February. There is absolutely no stopping the Honda City at the moment despite the Maruti Ciaz numbers increasing. Hyundai recently updated the Verna but that hasn’t impacted the City as well.

Honda is facing the heat on the MPV front though as the Mobilio can’t quite match the Ertiga for numbers. Since platforms and components are shared and the flexible assembly line at Honda’s plants can be switched to the higher selling cars, this wouldn’t be much of a worry for Honda. 1,697 units of Mobilio were sold in February. The petrol-only Brio sold 1,397 units while 140 units of the CR-V were delivered.
