According to UK’s independent safety review system SHARP (Safety Helmet Assessment and Review Program), the AGV Pista GP has been rated as the world’s safest helmet. The AGV Pista GP triumphed as the safest lid after the agency tested a total 331 different helmets from around the world. It isn’t the first time that the Italian helmet manufacturer has been praised by SHARP as its Corse helmet had received the maximum score of five stars in the past.
The main reason for AGV receiving this honour was the fact that they worked on the Extreme Standard Helmet project, with an intention of improving overall protection without compromising on the comfort factor. The Extreme Standard Helmet project was started by AGV by customising helmets for MotoGP legend and AGV brand ambassador Valentino Rossi. What set apart the AGV Pista GP helmet was unlike conventional lids the construction of the helmet started inside out. Also biometric scan of the rider’s head was taken so that the helmet can be crafted determining the best shape of the EPS and comfort liner in order for a snug fit. According to AGV the most vital element in a helmet is to dissipate the force away from the skull during an impact and they took the help of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) in selecting the most apt material for the helmet. The AGV Pista GP Carbon retails for Rs 85,512 in the US market.
Speaking about the SHARP rating, Lino Dainese, President of Dainese and AGV said, “I consider the PistaGP helmet a tribute to Gino Amisano, an entrepreneur I admired for his ability to innovate, the records he achieved, and the competitive spirit with which he faced every challenge. The new helmet is part of the AGV Extreme Standards project, which, in line with the qualities established by Amisano, revolutionizes the way helmets are designed, setting new records for protection and ergonomics that are clearly evident.”
