Blind spots: the hidden dangers

What are blind spots and how to reduce them

Blind Spot

Modern automobiles are designed to be as safe as possible but blind spots are inherent due to the very structure of the automobile.

The ‘blind spot’ are the areas in the front, at the sides or behind a vehicle that are not visible to the driver, either to his naked eye or in the rear-view mirrors. These are more prominent at high speeds, and at junctions and road crossings.

Examples of blind spots:

1. A -pillars hold the windscreen in place and the rear-view mirrors create blind spots on the sides of the vehicle.

2. The interior rear-view mirror at the centre of the windshield has blind spots created by the rear-seat headrests.

3. The side rear-view mirrors cannot provide a wide enough view while changing lanes.

4. While driving out of a narrow lane the nose of the vehicle enters the road first and the driver cannot see vehicles on the road until they are in front.

Cameras and sensors can help make the blind spots visible. Also read: Blind spot detection

Rear-view cameras are essential while reversing Rear parking sensors warn the driver about obstacles in the vehicle’s path. Cameras on the sides of bumpers allow the driver to see traffic while exiting a narrow alley.

Reduce side and rear blind spots with rear-view mirrors

Drivers can reduce blind spots to a minimum by adjusting the rear-view mirrors for the widest possible field of vision and glaincing out of the side window before changing lanes.

The interior rear-view mirror should have the centre of the rear window in the driver’s sight, while the exterior rear-view mirrors should provide a view behind the vehicle in continuation from where the view of the interior rear-view mirror ends.

The new technology equipped with the sensors to eliminate the blind spots will go a long way in bringing down the accidents and make driving as safe as possible.

Why is it called an article in the first place? Looks like the author (Abhishek Chaliha) has written appears to be copied from some parking cameras and sensors manufacturer website or flyer. Google will give you better articles to write on this same subject. Atleast do your research and then put it on the website.

THis is a very lame article. To add some meat to it, you coould have talked about how technology helps mitigate the risks of blind spots. You also could have talked about after sales accessories, which can be installed to help with the blind spots.
