With the economy improving, the spending power of Indian two-wheeler buyers has increased, with the new steed of buyers giving performance more weightage than fuel efficiency. This shift in sentiment has resulted in bikemakers bringing products from their international portfolio to our market. Hero finally updated the Karizma ZMR with revised styling and added performance to compete against the Yamaha R15 and Honda CBR 150R. Suzuki brought in its 250cc offering, the Inazuma to the Indian market and also reduced the price of the bike by a huge Rs 1 lakh to make it more affordable.

With its butter smooth motor and relaxed riding posture, the Inazuma is a perfect tool for touring. Kawasaki launched the Z250 which is the naked version of the Ninja 250 that was on sale few years ago with styling inspired from the bigger Z800 and is the cheapest Kawasaki offering on sale. KTM also launched the much anticipated RC 390; the sporty styling will certainly appeal to the youngsters while the revised steering geometry means it’s a hoot to ride on the race track and the budget sports bike that Indian consumers had been dreaming of. Hyosung also expanded its cruiser family by riding in the updated Aquila 250.

When quizzed about the nominees for the 2014 ZigWheels Award in the two-wheeler class, Joshua Crasto replied, “There were more than 26 motorcycles being shortlisted for this year’s award which is quite a comprehensive list. I think the Indian consumer is really spoilt for choices and the two-wheeler market in India is growing at a rapid rate.”
