Which car will take 2014 Hatchback of the Year crown? This year, we had a mix of entry level hatchbacks from new entrants like Datsun Go and the evergreen Alto in a new avatar to the likes of the Fiat Avventura, which represented the cross hatchback segment. We also had the Maruti Celerio and the Hyundai i20 vying for the top spot

Hatchback of the Year
The hatchback is undoubtedly India’s staple diet when it comes to car buying habits. Which is why the hatchback of the year is possibly one of the most significant categories in this year’s awards. This year, we had a mix of entry level hatchbacks from new entrants like Datsun and the evergreen Alto in a new avatar to the likes of the Fiat Avventura, which represented the cross hatchback segment. The Avventura aims to take on the likes of both the conventional hatchbacks like the Suzuki Swift and the compact SUVs like the Ford Ecosport. Equipped with the same engine as the Alto, the Celerio also made its presence felt especially with its AMT gearbox being one of the core topics of discussion amongst the jury.

The new Hyundai Elite i20 seems to be the favourite though amongst all the shortlisted cars with its impressive design and engines. The i20 is also a very strong contender for the overall car of the year award and has seen phenomenal response from the car buying audiences in the country. The i20 goes up against strong competitors like the Volkswagen Polo and the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
