With many consumers upgrading from sub 500cc class to bigger bikes, demand for premium motorcycles above 500c has increased tremendously in the recent past. We list down the nominations from the 2014 ET ZigWheels Awards Jury Round Premium Bike of the Year (Above 500cc)

2014 ET ZigWheels Awards Jury Round Premium Bike above 500cc

Nominees:

1. Kawasaki ER-6n

2. Harley-Davidson Street 750

3. Triumph Street Triple

4. Triumph Daytona 675R

The most popular launch in the segment has to be the first “Made in India Harley-Davidson” in the form of the Street 750. The Street 750 has made the iconic American brand accessible to Indian buyers owing to its killer pricing. Kawasaki launched the naked version of the Ninja 650 by bringing in the ER-6n. The lack of fairing means that Kawasaki have been able to cut cost making the ER-6n among the cheapest above 500cc motorcycles on sale. Triumph Motorcycles also entered the Indian two-wheeler market with complete valour as it launched the Street Triple and the Triumph Daytona 675R. The Street Triple with its punchy motor and spot on ergonomics make it among the most easy to live with performance motorcycles in our market. With top of the shelf cycle parts, a screaming motor and brilliant handling dynamics, the Daytona 675R is the apt track tool.

Unsurprisingly the Triumph Daytona 675R was his choice when we asked to pick his strongest contender from the premium segment. According to Rajini, the Daytona 675R has the perfect combination of performance and nimble handling dynamics making it the best motorcycle to ride on the Chennai track.
