1. How do you feel the winter tests have gone?
We did a good job this winter. With so few days of testing, it's very important
to take a step forward at the end of each session, specifying certain things. We managed
to finish last season with a competitive bike and our goal was not to make drastic
changes, but to improve in some areas such as braking stability and traction, while still
maintaining what already worked well. We are happy with what we have at the moment.
2. During these winter tests, the 2011 RC212V machine was very impressive, is this
the best 800cc package you have ever had?
There has been a big change from how
we left here last winter. I would say that since being in MotoGP this is the best bike
I've had to start the season with, together with the 990 in 2006. I felt comfortable right
away on this 2006 bike, we had a very good final test which allowed us to reach the first
race prepared and confident. I have these same feelings now. The pre-season test is very
demanding because in just six days you have to decide everything, but it helps a lot
mentally when what you try, works – which has certainly been the case this year. The
bike is responding well and we found answers to things we wanted, but we will have to wait
until the first race to see where we have won and where we have lost.
3. Which
is the strongest point of the package this year?
Looking at our quick pace
during the winter test, I would say that the strongest point of our package now is the
consistency of the bike, but it’s difficult to say before the first race. We need to
see the real level of the other manufactures, as well, to judge where we are strongest.
4. What would you like to improve on the machine?
I’m always
looking for some more braking stability because it’s important for me. We will also
work on improving turning to gain a faster speed in the corner.
5. Does it give
you an extra boost to have two strong team mates?
I always try to find the
motivation by myself, but it’s not a secret that if there is a good level in the
team, everybody gives his maximum.
