With the 2012 season over, riders got a chance to test their bikes for the upcoming season in difficult conditions at the rain-hit Valencia track. The highlight was Valentino Rossi who's returned to Yamaha

Rossi made
his comeback to Yamaha

Valentino Rossi, who made a comeback to his former team Yamaha Factory Racing at Valencia, went out on the track for an initial shakedown, when the track conditions were dry but cold. He returned to the track later in the day when it was raining and his best time was the sixth fastest of the day overall. Meanwhile, his teammate and current world champion Jorge Lorenzo decided not to venture out on the track in the treacherous conditions. Marc Marquez, who was supposed to make his debut for the Repsol Honda team as a replacement to Casey Stoner, also opted out from heading to the track. It was a similar case with Dani Pedrosa who was supposed to evaluate the 2013 bike with the older bike he raced last weekend.

Andrea Dovizioso testing at
Valencia

Ducati team’s Andrea Dovizoso was one of the few lucky riders who was able to test the bike in morning, when the track was dry. Dovizoso capitalised on the opportunity to post the third fastest time of the day. His initial impressions of the bike were satisfactory. Dovizoso's teammate Nicky Hayden wasn’t as lucky and had to head out in afternoon when the track was completely wet. Hayden was working on the new suspension of the bike and also tried a new chassis, but he stated that in wet conditions it was difficult to judge the progress of the bike. His timing placed him on fifth spot on the timesheet.
