Rubens Barrichello may have retired from Formula 1 but that doesn’t mean he’s given up racing! Just about the time that the Brazilian announced his decision to leave his race seat at Williams, rumours were ripe about the former Ferrari driver moving over to America to race in the IndyCar series. Ever since he first tested KV Racing Technology’s IndyCar contender it was clear that Rubinho was fast and was beginning to spring up a new found love for the ovals. Yet, no one would have thought that his move State-side would become a reality. Well, Barrichello will definitely be moving to IndyCar and with KV Racing Technology driving alongside his old friend Tony Kanaan and Tony Viso in 2012. “I was at Sebring when Rubens first got into an Indy car," said KV Racing team co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven. "The smile when he got out of the car was a great moment and lasted for three days."

"The addition of Rubens and the return of Tony along with EJ, gives KVRT a very strong driver line-up and one I am sure can compete for podium finishes and race wins," said co-owner Jimmy Vasser. "I would also like to thank all the sponsors for making this deal possible and KVRT General Manager Mark Johnson for his tireless work getting all the parties together." Incidentally, Tony Kanaan has also extended his contract with the team for two years. Kanaan and Barrichello have been great friends for a while now – both drivers having exchanged helmet designs in 2006 for the Monaco GP and the Indianapolis 500 which were held on the same day. The two Brazilians may have done that back then because they thought that would be the closest they would come to racing each other in the same series, but with Rubinho’s move to IndyCar now, it seems like that dream is just beginning! However his career there turns out one thing’s for sure – Rubens’ mile-wide smile is all set to enchant a whole continent obsessed with the ovals!
