Jarno Trulli will be replaced by Vitaly Petrov as driver for the Caterham team

Vitaly petrov moves to Caterham F1 team

In a recent announcement, the Caterham F1 team declared that Russian driver Vitaly Petrov will take Jarno Trulli’s race seat. The Caterham team did a short run in the first pre-season test at Jerez, will now have an extensive test of their new car CT01 at the second pre-season test at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya with Heikki Kovalainen and the team’s new entrant Petrov.

“From what I have seen already, our new car is another good step forward from 2011 and now I cannot wait to see how it feels when we get to Barcelona,” said the Russian driver.

In 2009, Petrov was runner up in the GP2 series. The following year he got a chance to make his F1 debut with Renault. He continued with Renault (now Lotus) in 2011 in which he took 10th place at the end of the season. Unfortunately, he was left without a race seat until after the first round of pre-season test.

“Vitaly understands and shares our vision for how we want our team to grow. As the first Russian to race in F1 he carries the hopes of a huge nation with ease and his talents, experience with one of our current competitors and insights on and off track will play a huge role in our development as we fight to join the established teams ahead,” said Team Principal Tony Fernandes.

This replacement now leaves Trulli without a race seat so close before the start of the season, when all the teams have already signed a pact with some team. The Italian driver has had a 15-year long career in F1 right from its debut in 1997 with Minardi to the 2011 season with Lotus (now Caterham).
