Red Bull’s sister squad Toro Rosso took the wraps off its 2013 car, the STR8, at the Jerez circuit ahead of the first pre-season test with its Team Principal Franz Tost and drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo doing the honours.

The Faenza based team has decided not to retain the stepped nose on their car like Red Bull Racing and have fitted a ‘vanity panel’ instead. The Ferrari powered STR8 is the first car by Chief Designer Luca Furbatto who joined from McLaren in December 2011.

Already looking ahead to the 2014 season Franz Tost said, “Formula 1 is approaching a new era, specifically in 2014 and at Toro Rosso, we have already made significant changes to our structure both in terms of manpower and facilities to be ready for that."

“We will be expecting more from our drivers' this year as they both tackle their second full season of F1. However, we are well aware it is up to us to provide them with a car that's capable of allowing them to show their undoubted talent”, said the optimistic Team Principal.

The team starts the pre-season test with a renewed optimism and their Team Principal summarized their plan for 2013 by saying, “We have set ourselves a target of finishing sixth in the Constructors' classification”. The team had a tough season in 2012, finishing ninth in the constructors’ standings with 26 points, and a best finish of two eighth places, one at Belgium and the other in Korea."
