Reigning Champions Red Bull Racing unveiled their 2013 title defender, the Renault
powered RB9 at a high tech futuristic launch ceremony at the team's UK factory in Milton
Keynes on February 4, 2013. Defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel along with team-mate
Mark Webber, Team Principal Christian Horner and Technical Chief Adrian Newey took the
wraps off the RB9.
A striking visual difference in the RB9 compared to its predecessor were the dashes of
purple added to its livery as a promotion for its new title sponsor Infiniti. However,
unlike most other teams, the RB9 has retained the infamous stepped nose.
Adrian Newey described the new challenger saying “RB9 is an evolutionary
car”. He added, “It was difficult trying to continue development of last
year's car, while also doing research into the RB9. Obviously it worked for us, but it
gave us a very tight timeframe to design and manufacture this car”.
After a thrilling climax to the 2012 season, Team Principal Christian Horner said
“The 2012 season was tough and long, but our success was testimony to all the hard
work and dedication in the factory. We’re fortunate that we’ve been able to
maintain continuity within our group. This is the fifth year that this driver pairing has
been together. We’ve got continuity throughout all of the technical teams and all
the key areas. I think that’s proof that there is a fierce determination to keep
both of those trophies in the cabinet for another year.”
The RB9 will first be tested by the team's unchanged driver line up at the pre-season
tests in Jerez, where Mark Webber will debut the car and test it from February 5 and 6,
and Sebastian Vettel will take it over for the next two days from February 7 and
8.
