After weeks of speculation and rumour mills creating confusion, the Nurburgring Circuit finally confirmed they will be hosting the 2013 German Grand Prix on the allotted date of July 7, 2013. Nurburgring has been one of the oldest German racing circuits and venue for the pinnacle of motorsport in Germany. However, a long period of uncertainty and reports of the circuit running into financial troubles raised doubts on the venue of the 2013 German Grand Prix.

The circuit is 90 per cent owned by Rhineland-Palatinate, a regional state in Germany. Problems arose after a dispute with track operator NAG over leasing fees, along with local politics demanding the state to stop subsidising the facility through local taxes. Eventually, this mounted pressure on the track operators, who, in turn, demanded that Ecclestone reduce the fees to host the F1 event.

The on-off saga became the most closely followed proceeding off season. On the other hand, Hockenheim had offered to host the event to maintain Formula One racing in Germany. An eleventh hour deal rescued the venue with Nurburgring confirming the race will be scheduled on July 7 apart from announcing on their website the date from which the presale of tickets will commence, which is February 4, 2013.

Bernie Ecclestone said, “I appreciate the Nürburgring and its history very much. Even today, this Grand Prix circuit makes the highest demands on drivers and teams. I was very pleased to advocate the hosting of the Formula 1 race at the Nürburgring in order to sustain this traditional race track”. The Nürburgring alternately hosts the German Grand Prix along with the Hockenheim and is the home circuit to reigning World Champion Sebastian Vettel, who is yet to win a race on home ground.
