| | Five riders on an arduous and exciting journey to the unexplored North east - the makings of one crazy ride and one amazing documentary. ZigWheels previews Gaurav Jani's latest documentary on biking and brotherhood. Very rarely do we come across someone like Garauv Jani who knows how to enrapture die-hard motorcycle enthusiasts and touch the deepest corner of their hearts where motorcycles and the essence of motorcycling reside. Garuav is an avid biker and founder member of the club www.60kph.com who loves to traverse across unknown soils astride his trusty Royal Enfield that he fondly refers to as the 'Loner'. In "One Crazy Ride", Gaurav is joined by are four other riders from the 60kph club including a girl. Yes, a GIRL. Nicolitta Pereira (Nicky), a bridal wear designer and part time piano teacher, she has been a committed member of the club for considerable time. Next is this dude who plays the role of a hygienic biker in "One Crazy Ride". Known for his perfectionist attitude and love for latest gizmos, Vinod Panicker too has been riding with the club and is the technical whiz kid behind Dirt Track Productions. Sanjeev Sharma or Sanju Baba is the graphic designer who looks after the websites of the production house and the club. Last but not the least - the final team player is Saurabh Singh Toor, who is a student as well as a dedicated vintage automobile collector and exporter of rare motorcycle parts. In its 87 minutes of play time, "One Crazy Ride" takes you through some of the remotest locales and breath-taking scenery from north-eastern India that still (luckily) remains un-explored and unseen. And like the video title suggests, the five bikers ride across some of the most laborious terrain without any service back-up vehicle or film crew following them. It is just them dealing with unfriendly locals and unfamiliar places with nothing more than their bikes and the ride as the only respite. However, in the end they end up enjoying every bit of this bizarre adventure and strengthening the bond of biking brotherhood. | | | | | | | | | | Gaurav's first novice effort to film a motorcycle travel documentary that highlighted the charm of crossing boundaries on two-wheels, called 'Riding Solo to the Top of the World' was a huge success and it bagged various international awards and several nominations at various film festivals around the globe. For several shots in the film it required Gaurav to setup the camera frame and ride his bike in front the lens till he got the right shot and then pack-up and proceed further - all this in some of the most arduous climatic conditions existing at the high altitudes of Himalaya. The 94 minute documentary was shot single-handedly by Gaurav Jani and then expertly edited at the production house Dirt Track Productions. A little background on the Dirt Track Production house - their official website says, "Dirt Track Productions was born when the co-founders were on a location hunt in the biggest tiger reserve of India and couldn't find their way out. Ultimately they walked for 13 hours without food and water to get back to civilisation." We were clearly sold when we read that. The motorcycling world is full of such eccentric and extreme populace with adventure playing a key role in their day-to-day lives Gaurav handles the filming while production and logistics' is taken care by P.T Giridhar Rao, who has a sizeable experience of fourteen years in the field of film production and is currently working as an Executive Producer for Ram Gopal Varma. Contributing to their efforts is a very able and competent team built by an editor, sound engineer, graphics designer, music composer and some really talented musicians. After the success of their first film, the team decided to embark on a journey to explore the North-eastern side of the Indian sub-continent covering some of the most scenic and virgin countryside in the Himalayan state of Arunachal Pradesh. Aptly titled as 'One Crazy Ride', the film wonderfully encompasses the true spirit of motorcycle touring and shows the five bikers ride through non-existent roads and towns never marked on the Indian map.. We were left spellbound by the trailer itself and after speaking to Gaurav, we can't wait to get our hands on the DVD. Watch this space for the full review of "One Crazy Ride".
