| | Known for their ability to make legends of their small cars, India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited is set to show off its expertise once again with the new A-Star. First seen as a concept at the Auto Expo earlier this year, the car is now production ready, as showcased at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. The car just about ready to roll out on Indian roads, and as those in the know will tell you, the A-Star is literally the most important launch for Maruti after the Alto. You might say it's just another small car, but the A-Star is already more than that. Firstly even at the concept stage, the A-Star has been a project driven by the Indian conglomerate. Though Suzuki Motor Corporation has offered extensive help in this regard, the A-Star is very much a Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) project. Secondly, the A-Star is not a 'made for India' car, but a global model that will be made in India exclusively. It might not seem much, but this is a major achievement not only for the company but for the Indian automobile industry as a whole. | With India being touted as a small car manufacturing hub, the A-Star actually illustrates that this vision for the industry is coming true. Being Indian is not about sub-standard quality anymore, for this little car is helping pave the way forward and tell the global markets that India is ready now to cater to other countries. Internationally the A-Star will be known as the Alto, but in India, it has been confirmed that the car will go with its project name, A-Star. The car already has its job cut out from day one. The A2 segment just so happens to be the most heavily populated segment in the Indian automobile scene right now with a solid amount of competition, much of it cut-throat - already present. The prevailing economic scenario and downturn has had an adverse effect on the car market, and customers are now looking at smaller pocket friendly vehicles to make do. Alto Launch in Paris |
