This video game highlights the perils of texting while driving

Texting while driving is a hot-button issue. Drivers know it is dangerous, but still continue to do so. Maybe worse, some believe they can multitask while driving. In a bid to highlight the hazards of texting while driving, a video game called SMS Racing gives players a firsthand experience of the cons of using their phones while driving.

The goal is to cross the finish line first while answering to texts pop up within ten seconds. If the player runs out of time he loses a friend. If the player runs out of time thrice, he loses friends those many times and eventually goes out of the game.

Although, this video game is sending across a serious message the mood has been kept light. As one races the car along the finish line, the vehicle bounces along the road and icons from other cars pop up when their drivers are texting.  The game is programmed for Samsung's Gear VR goggles to make it further more engaging.

This is not the first time that a game has been launched to highlight the perils of texting while driving. Earlier too, a video game by the name of Distraction Dodger had been launched to emphasise the adverse effects of distracted driving.
