Over 4,000 classic cars lie in 32 acres of forest land which has been turned into a junkyard museum

Classic cars captivate us with their beauty, rarity and engineering. So what if we tell you that over 4,000 classic cars decorate 32 acres of forest turning it into a junkyard museum? No, we aren’t kidding. Nestled in North Georgia, this forest houses these timeless beauties and welcomes car enthusiasts to catch a glimpse of them.

This forest car museum business was started by owner Walter Dean Lewis' parents back in 1931. What started as a general store that sold auto parts then grew into a collection of 40 cars by 1970. Lewis loved cars and was confident that his collection would be valuable some day.

Lewis stopped selling parts about six years ago, soon after realising he could sustain the business more as a museum, charging $15 or Rs 945 for visitors just looking, and $25 which amounts to Rs 1,590 for photographers. He estimates that 95 per cent of the people who come through the six miles of trails are photographers.

Visitors are greeted by various artworks and hand-painted messages. On occasion, Eddie McDaniel, a childhood friend of Lewis, plays piano for the visitors. The cars in the forest haven’t moved for the last 30 to 40 years. According to Lewis, trees now grow through these classic cars and even lift them off the ground.

Lewis’ most priced possession till date is the 1946 Ford truck used in Murder in Coweta County, a 1983 film starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith. According to him his passion for collecting these cars keeps him going.
