After months of teasers and speculations Lexus has finally whisked the sheets off its real, live, working hoverboard

The Lexus overboard is finally in action

Back in June this year, fans were cautiously optimistic about Lexus introducing a new device called Slide, which they purported to be a working hoverboard. Back then, no one could figure out how legitimate this project was. The company, however, has whisked the sheets of a real, live working hoverboard putting all speculations to rest.

Professional skateboarder Ross McGouran was roped in for the job to ride Slide. The skateboarder had plenty of spills on the way to mastering the art of riding the hoverboard. So how does the hoverboard even work?

Lexus has made a skatepark with magnetic rails buried underneath

Well, Lexus made a skatepark with magnetic rails buried underneath, which makes the whole thing possible. The mechanism is based on the concept that when magnets have opposite poles, they repel each other and force a space between them.

The device hovers roughly more than three inches off the ground without a rider and compresses to two inches bearing weight. According to reports, it also requires to be filled with liquid nitrogen every 10 minutes to keep functioning.

A highly constrained, not quite original hoverboard is still a hoverboard, though and Lexus has been successful in building one.
