Shocking celebrity road accidents

1. Salman Khan

Salman Khan’s 2002 hit-and-run case tops this list. This famous celebrity had rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser into American Express Bakery on Hill Road junction in Bandra, Mumbai. According to the Mumbai Session Court verdict, Salman’s car ran over a few people who were sleeping on a pavement near the bakery on the night of September 28, 2002. One person was killed in this accident while the other four suffered from injuries. Charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder were proven against the actor, and Salman has been sentenced to five years in jail.

2. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, actors Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan met with an accident when they were in Ahmedabad to promote their film 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania'.  On their way from the airport to the hotel, a car belonging to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (G Division, Ahmedabad), JN Parmar, rammed into their luxury yellow coloured Audi sedan.  Reports suggest, both the stars escaped unhurt as they were seated at the back. The driver of the car just behind them lost control and rammed into their sedan. The impact shattered the rear windscreen completely and a few shards even landed on the backseat.

3. Jaspal Bhatti

Noted comedian and filmmaker Jaspal Bhatti, 57, died in a road accident near Shahkot in October 2012. As per a report in The Times of India, Bhatti along with his son Jasraj who was behind the wheel, and two others was coming to Jalandhar from Bathinda for the promotion of his new film 'Power Cut' when the car hit a tree on the roadside. Bhatti was sitting in the rear seat of the car and received serious head injuries.

A budding cricketer from Hyderabad and son of former India captain Md Azharuddin met with a ghastly accident in September 2011 that cost him his life. Ayazuddin was riding a Suzuki 1,000CC superbike which skidded off the road seriously injuring the 19-year-old. The teenager succumbed to his injuries five days after the accident.

5. John Abraham

Model turned actor John Abraham suffered minor injuries following a motorbike accident in 2006. Reports suggest, Abraham hurt his left ankle and knee after the motorbike skidded while avoiding a pedestrian crossing the road in suburban Khar.
