It feels great when we receive a gift. It feels even better when we gift someone who is in need. Believing in the principle of ‘The Joy of Giving’ is a mystery man in Tennessee, USA, who gifted a fast food worker a brand new car. Yes you heard it right.

Jeff Smith, 34, was shopping at a grocery store. When he exited the store he noticed a stranger standing near his car in the parking lot. The two struck up a conversation which eventually turned to Smith’s 1991 Geo Storm.

The mystery man asked the 34-year-old whether his car was reliable, while Smith replied in negative. The old car, which had done 3,50,000 miles had a cracked dashboard, no driver’s side window and had a hook and piece of string to keep the driver’s side door closed.

The old stranger asked the fast food worker to follow him down the street to a motor showroom. He asked Smith to wait outside, while he walked inside the showroom. The stranger came out after a while and asked Smith if he liked a blue pickup. The fast food worker stated that the he liked the car and the stranger gave him a surprise of his lifetime that this new car now belonged to him.

The kind stranger said he would like to remain anonymous and only asked that Smith ‘pay it forward.’ He said someone did a good deed for him, and in return he did it for Smith. The stranger told Smith that it is his turn to do it to someone else who is in need of help.

The 34-year-old admits that he wasn’t convinced that the entire episode was real until a couple of days later when the owner of the dealership showed up at the fast food restaurant where he works to give him the keys to his 2001 navy blue GMC Sonoma, which had been purchased for Rs 2.2 lakh.

A happy Smith stated that this benevolent gesture reinstated his faith that there are still good people in the world.
