The Irish millionaire has his own taxicab company with just one cab so that he can legally use bus lanes and avoid traffic jams

Michael O’Leary’s secret behind taxicab company

One of Ireland’s wealthiest businessman and CEO of Dublin-based budget airline Ryanair, Michael O’Leary, is known for his audacious business decisions and controversial comments. Just like his airline, he too has a knack for looking at things unconventionally. The O’Leary taxicab service is one such example.

O’Leary is the owner of O’Leary cabs, an Irish taxicab service company which owns just one cab. A 2007-Mercedes-Benz S-Class taxi with Mullingar hackney carriage license MG99 is used by O’Leary to operate between Ryanair’s headquarter at Dublin airport to his home in Mullingar. This car even has a taxi metre which allows it to use the bus lanes within Dublin.

The taxicab service has also registered a profit of Rs 10 lakh per year and despite being the owner O’Leary pays the taxi service for transportation.

In 2011, this Mercedes-Benz S-Class was put up on sale for a price of Rs 15 lakh under the description of ‘Ireland's most famous taxi’.
