Man in car challaned for not wearing helmet

If a cow can be issued an admit card to write an exam by the J&K authorities recently, so can a man in a car be challaned for not wearing a helmet in India. Well, we aren’t trying to exaggerate any situation here, but a bizarre incidence that occurred in Hasanpur, Meerut will surely leave you in splits.

Shailendra Singh is the victim of the traffic authorities in Meerut who challaned him for not wearing a helmet while driving a car! Although, unbelievable that is, the story does not ends here. The cops went further ahead and even put the Maruti Swift car's registration number on the challan receipt. The 43-year-old man is fuming with rage and has approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) who has ordered an enquiry into the matter.

Reports suggest, Singh was stopped by a traffic police officer, who asked to see his car's papers. According to Singh, all his vehicle documents were in order, yet the cop refused to let him go. Singh states that he was on his way to see a doctor with his four-month-old son and was running late. The cops, however, kept holding his car for some reason. The 43-year-old man had a heated discussion with the traffic cop, and was in for a rude shock. The cop challaned Singh for not wearing a helmet! The angry man states that he never knew that he was supposed to don a helmet while driving a car.

On the other hand, Shivraj Singh, the traffic cop who had issued the challan states that the matter is being blown out of proportion and that at the heart of the controversy is a technical mistake. He states that Singh was stopped because the authorities found him talking on the mobile phone while driving. They had to, therefore, challan him. The cop states that he had asked the chowki in-charge of Hasanpur, Bachan Singh, to issue a challan. However, the official, by mistake, charged the 43-year-old Maruti Swift owner for not wearing a helmet instead of issuing him a challan for talking on the mobile phone. Shivraj Singh says that it was an error and not done deliberately.

Whatever the truth may be, but on a lighter note can you think of a song that fits in the above situation? Well, we can’t stop humming the popular song - It happens only in India!
