Amazing: Ford lets you 3D print its cars

In 2014, Ford celebrated 50 years of the Ford Mustang by treating auto enthusiasts with a 3D printed Chocolate Mustang that could be held in the hand and popped into the mouth. This year, the carmaker is sharing its love for 3D printing technology with the world by opening up an online shop that will allow customers to purchase 3D printed models of their favourite Ford vehicle.

The American carmaker has started offering printable files for the F-150 Raptor, Shelby GT350R, Focus ST, and Fiesta ST. Ford is also gearing up to bring in a detailed model of the all-new GT for download.

The 3D printed models are available to order in 1:32 scale and are available in plastic. Purchasing a digital image will allow users to have the Ford vehicle 3D printed to the scale and material they choose to print from.

Ford isn’t the first manufacturer to host its 3D printing files online. Last year, Honda made the schematics for many of its past concept cars available to the public, for free.
