Yamaha Performance Parts

Yamaha ups the power ante for the track and spirited riding with a range of specialized performance enhancers. ZigWheels Varad More got to sample these go-faster goodies at the Chennai race track and here is his first hand report. AN INDIAN EXCLUSIVE!

After years of false promises and never-ending wait from various manufacturers, once again it is Yamaha India that has taken the onus to serve the serious performance enthusiasts in India. Post the launch of its two stunning models last year, the FZ16 and the YZF-R15, Yamaha is back with a bang with some really exciting performance upgrades for its two premium models. The upgrades unveiled last year were mostly cosmetic but the ones unveiled at the MMST's Sriperumbudur race circuit are truly potent and yes, very much track focused.

To begin with, the YZF-R15 has been the ultimate track-tool since its introduction - last year it debuted on the Indian racing scene and clinched the UCAL ROLON National racing championship, snatching away the crown from the TVS Apache, which has been winning on the circuit for past several years (partly due to the lack of competition from any other manufacturer). Another step in the right direction for Yamaha was the R15 Championship which allowed newbie racers and bikers to exploit the true potential of the YZF-R15 on the racetrack and also experience the thrill of racing under controlled conditions. This effort has revived the respect that many had for bikes sporting the tuning fork logo and it has once again instilled faith in the brand for all of its followers.

The R15 has gathered racing credentials in a very short period of time and hence it was the most worthy candidate in the Yamaha product line-up for some serious performance boost. The job was handed over to Yamaha Racing Corporation, Japan who in turn authorized noted tuning firm and after-markets hop up specialist Daytona to make specialized go-faster bits for both the R15 and the FZ16. With over three months of development and rigorous testing around Daytona's own test-track, the final products were readied and dispatched to India. The racing kit includes the following:

1] Re-mapped ECU
2] High-lift cam-shaft
3] Full exhaust system
4] Special alloy sprockets
5] Adjustable Foot rests
6] Larger diameter petal disc front brake
7] Stainless steel brake hose
8] Race-spec master brake oil cylinder

Yamaha will be selling these parts individually as well to interested owners who are looking for step-by-step upgrades. Read more about the parts in detail on the next page.

R15 is a good try to introduce racing model in India. But yamaha should introduce an "V-engine" bike having atleast 65bhp!!! with high performance parts | Reply

Wow, Yamaha has their third world market strategy cut and dried to perfection, with all these TRACK performance parts! No chance of getting a 400 or 600 now, is there, Yamaha India ("Where are the roads" with a sorrowful expression, eh) | Reply

its very nice to hear that YAMAHA is gearing up to the expectations. But the performance parts costs a bit high compared to the price of the bike. it will be better if YAMAHA can produce the bikes which owns these kits as special edition. so that price constraint can be eliminated. All the best Yamaha we are keenly watching.... | Reply

Dear Ruby, the parts will be sold separately as well as a whole kit. The price is not disclosed yet, but the word is the whole kit will cost somewhere in the region of Rs. 35-50,000. You can also buy parts individually but they will be a little expensive. | Reply

I was bit disappointed on buying R15 after selling P220. But now i am happy that yamaha is giving performance parts instead of letting me buying a whole new bike. I guess products will cost inbetween 20k to 30k and if it would be the range, i am ready to buy. Cheers YAMAHA!!! | Reply
