TVS Apache RTR180

The new Apache RTR 180 carries the same hooligan character of the old Apache RTR 160, but makes it more tractable for the street without losing its track focus. Varad More straddles it to find out if it has the go to match its show

Intro: RTR Resurrection!

The Hosur-based TVS Motor Company is back with a bang this time with a better-equipped and all-round motorcycle in the form of the new Apache RTR 180. Since the days of the Fiero, TVS has been churning out products developed on the race-tracks and incorporating fundamentals gained from the Company's active participation in racing.

i own a TVS APACHE 160cc grey colour , i really love my bike thought it mut have to be updated in small techinal points for eg its kicker doesnt return to its original position after being kicked , the front disc brakes small box which we get in the right side of our handle bar we find a small glass which very often breaks and the oil comes out .other than all this small minor mistakes the APACHE is really a great bike | Reply

i own a apache 180,pearl white..it rocks and it really does.pros:.gr8 styling.te color of te pearl white wud catch all eyes on road.pick up is te mantra of this bike..features and solid braking system(havin two discs in front and back, cant ask for more).gr8 bike by all means.cons:.it has tubeless tyre system, once u got ur byk punctured,u shud repair it immediately, otherwise ur byk tyres get a bulging and change in shape.you cant remove the tyrs from the byk yourself or with a local mechanic..its a big complicated process to remove the tyres from the vehichle.tvs service sucks in tis regard.(I PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED TIS PROBLEM,I WAITED FOR 10 DAYS TO GET MY BIKE DONE AFTR TIS INCIDENT).doesnt provide a great mileage in comparison to its dear rivals pulsars. | Reply

achiever (20 January 2010 16:26) Reply to Darshan
If you are looking for a commuter, go for scooters like Activa, Aviator, Access etc. The bikes you mentioned above is useless in all ways except a bit more mileage. You cannot carry anything on it. So so don't waste money on them. Alternatively, if you are looking for a good motorcycle, go for R15 or Ninja 250. All other bikes are craps | Reply

@darshani guess tere is no such bike known as gs180r,it is gs150r from suzuki.gs150 r is a very gud byk,its advantages over apache 180 is that.it gives better mileage.its worth for money.economical use,wen used in cities.gud styling for a bike that costs 58,000rs.gives a kwel smooth rideadvs of apache180 over suzuki is that.apache 180 is a hiperfomance bike.it costs 73000rs on road..its styling is 2 gud bfore suzuki150cc byk.very hi pickup.gud for both city n hiways | Reply

Ameri..you'll look a little funny, but it's not like you'll literally be too tall to fit on the Ninja 250. for someone your size, I would try to get a 500 instead. The GS500 looks more like a 'sportbike' than the EX500, but the EX is the more powerful machine...if you can learn on the MSF's 250cc cruisers, or get some seat time on someone else's 250, a 650 twin (sv650 or ninja650) are about the biggest 'beginner' bikes out there. Both will look better than the 500s.ultimately you have to sit on them and see what suits you best. good luck, and congrats on making a responsible choice for a first bike. | Reply
  • denise (18 September 2009 14:26)
yea they are, if your considering a 250r you night as well get a little pocket bike. just go with a kawasaki zx6r they are very good bikes and have a good seating position compared to the other sport bikes(cbr,gsxr,r6/r1) that have you hump backed. as long as you drive responsibly a 600cc will be perfect. my advice, go with a 2009 kawasaki ZX6R | Reply
  • Janewest (18 September 2009 14:25)
Americruiser..You are too tall ! Go to a dealer and sit on bikes until you find one you like and fits, Ninjas are made in 600,750, and 1100 CC's and capable of tremendous speeds and G-forces but also very capable of civilized traffic. Also try the other styles, cruisers and standards and other makes. | Reply
  • Aquos (18 September 2009 14:25)
Americruiser, Get a 500 instead of a 250, you will want a bigger bike and the 500 is a good size for someone as tall as you. Plus you wont have to get another bike for a while, it will last. | Reply

Got yourself a "150/160/180/200/220/223" cc "sports bike"..?? Consider yourself "Definitely Male"?? Think again..Yes, you have heard it right. In developed countries, 250 and lesser cc bikes are considered as beginner's bikes, ones that are fit for learners. Even the Pulsar 220's/Apache 180 and Karizma's will be considered nothing more than commuter bikes in the developed countries. As for the 100-125 cc bikes, they will probably be passed off as "Glorified lawnmower engines" on two wheels. Even the 30 bhp, 250 cc Kawasaki Ninja is being promoted like our own Hero Honda Pleasure Scooter "Why should Boys have all the Fun" .....Ouch..!! Did that hurt your "Definitely Male" ego..?? Maybe you were under the impression that riding a 150-220 cc cc bike certifies you as a "Hunk" on two wheels "Breaking Newton's Laws of Motions"..??But nevermind, "East is after all East..!!" Our Rich "desi" kids will get a taste of the like's of the 1000 cc Yamaha R1's right here in India. Others can satisfy with 150/160/180/200/220/223" cc "sports bikes". As for "beginner bikers" like me, just give me the Kawasaki Ninja 250R for around 1.75-2.00 Lakhs. !! | Reply

I am a motor-bike enthusiast from Germany. Recently I have visited india. I am surprised to see that there are hardly any motor-bikes over 150 cc and all them have single cylinder. I also wonder why all these motor-bikes have similar design? Each and every bikes look remarkably similar! In germany most of the bikes are over 250 cc and there are different categories like sports, offroad , touring, cruiser..etc | Reply

I have personally owned a TVS Victor. Very bad experience with the vehicle. No pickup. Lots of mechanical troubles. I had to resort back by writing to TVS. No resorts. Finally had to dump that bike and had gone in for Pulsar 180, Good bike, but not for family use. A single, fun filled and freek guy would be happy. Pulsar is too high, no chain guard, no stepper in sari guard and the angle of riding is going to give you pain in your palm and shoulder. The tank is also high and can damager your personal parts during accidents and strong hits. Really not sure that I made a right choice looking into my priorities! | Reply

ONE OF THE BEST BIKE MAKERS TVS HAS GOOD ENGINEERING PRODUCTS.I HAVE BEEN USING TVS SUZUKI FIERO SINCE 2001. ZERO PROBLEM. VICTOR HAD SOME PROBLEMS INITIALLY. BUT WERE REPAIRED AFTERWORDS, TVS' PROBLEM IS THAT THEY DON'T MAKE HYPE OF THEIR PRODUCTS LIKE HERO HONDA AND BAJAJ. HERO HONDA BIKES' FINISHING IS VERY GOOD. BAJAJ'S PULSER VARIENT ARE GOOD BUT I USED PLATINA, XCD 125, THEY ARE OVERESTIMATED AND DON'T HAVE THE CLASS AND STYLE THAT OF PULSER. BUT I LIKE RTR'S RIDE.SMOOTH AND RIDING IS DEFINITELY USER FRIENDLY AND HANDLING IS VERY GOOD.IT GIVES BEST RIDING PLEASURE AND POWER. VERY GOOD FOR OVERTAKING. VERY GOOD BIKE INDEED. TVS SHOULD HAVE ADVERTISED APACHE WITH DHONI. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD. I HAVE LATEST SCOOTY STREAK AND GIVES VERY GOOD RIDING PLEASURE. ELL DONE TVS KEEP IT UP. FRIENDS YOU DON'T HAVE TO CRITICISE OTHERS TO HAVE YOUR PRODUCT MAKE HIGH. BOTH BAJAJ AND HERO HONDA WHICH ARE GOOD 2 WHEELER MAKER. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN TVS PRODUCTS ARE BAD, THE ARE VERY GOOD PRODUCTS. | Reply

Only guys who have passion for biking can make great bike and clearly TVS guys are not! I had a horrendous experience with my previous bike the Fiero F2. Since then I jucked it and settled for delightfully stylish, powerful and almost trouble-free Pulsar 180. I know The Bajajs are not the best in their class but good thing about them is that they are passionate bikers and I am sure if they continue to be this way and keep improving, them would be world class in not so distant future. | Reply

I dont ever trust on the TVS products. U never know when the bike will be stopped. TVS have scraped several bikes like that. Initially i had Suzuki Fiero, which was very good, due to its good performance i took TVS Fiero, which is a utter flop bike. Finally i am happy with Pulsar 150. TVS has the problem with its clutch plates which we can see after the bike completes 1 or 2 years. Cheap build quality of TVS should over come. | Reply

Sports bikes are not on indian roads because a normal salaried indian family guy would go for a car for 2.5 lacs (even a maruti 800) than going for a virtually single seater sports bike. and even for a 63000 rs bike most people in india require a "two wheeler loan". not everyone in india is as rich as you superbike fans think. so commuter bikes is what it is for india. sports bikes. rich guys can always import.and also did you know you can be fined riding over 50 kmph in city roads on a two wheeler? thats the rule in maharashtra. cannot ride above 50 kmph in city. if you need to verify please visit your nearest RTO.however I dont know about other states. | Reply

The 180 looks to similar to RTR 160. Further it cannot match Yamaha in looks nor it can match Bajaj in performance. Maybe smaller wheelbase would help in that fast feel, but cannot give the stability required at higher speeds. Comeon TVS come out with newer series. The Fiero has long served it purpose. | Reply

They will give you heavy bills once you service your bike in authorize service center. This companies bikes are not so durable in nature. It seems that a "sport bike" for india can be defined as bike with 150/180cc engine 50-60 kmpl mileage 12.123 bhp to 17.123 bhp disc brakes fancy fairing graphics ...and finally all within 60000 to 70000 rs! Not at all interested! I wonder why these people make such a rave for a bike like this..These so called 'performance bikes' are just bloated versions of regular commuter bikes. They have the same old engine bored to a bigger size to pump out a little more power. And they claim them 'performance bike's!11.5 bhp12.5 bhp15.5 bhp17.5 bhp..what a big deal!!!!It has been more than a decade. When will these manufactures introduce a proper sports bike that is affordable. Yes, the 'Pulsar 220 or apache 180' may provide the power that they are supposed to give. But I am sure they won't be more exhilarating to ride than a normal 150. As far as a 'sports bike' is concerned, a motorcycle should have minimum 2 cylinders in order to achieve a smoother engine operation at high speeds....once again '2 CYLINDERS'. And no bloated 'single cylinder' engine can match the performance, smoothness OR deliver the 'racing exhaust note' of a 'twin cylinder'. No matter what ever 'dts' or 'prmfi' or other techincal stuff they might have. And those who consider 'pulsar 220' and 'apache 180' as 'performance kings', just test ride a Kawasaki ninja 250 or honda hornet 250 and feel the difference. I am sure there will be no turning back to these craps then. | Reply
