MT-01 vs. Suzuki Intruder - A Tale of Two Twins

So which one should I get?

Now this is the really tricky question, and there is honestly no definite answer. First off, both cost stratospheric amounts of money to buy (upwards of Rs. 12.5 lakh), putting them in an extremely niche segment. Both the bikes guarantee exclusivity with the ability to snap your neck with mental acceleration and those of onlookers with their tremendous presence and mind-blowing guttural V-twin soundtrack. They both look phenomenal with their massive engines as their design centerpieces, so there is no way to choose between them on aesthetics, though in our opinion, the MT-01's retro-futuristic design scores marginally higher than the classic flowy lines of the Intruder. But they are completely polar-opposites of each other in terms of appeal. This difference in appeal can be best summed up by examples of rock music. The MT-01 is like Progressive Rock ? it has all the basic rock instruments, but the sound is more diverse, more cerebral in a sense. The Intruder on the other hand is like old-school Heavy Metal - loud, mad and pleasing the more primitive side of our brain. And your truly for one, would choose AC/DC over Dream Theatre any day.

I would say the engine on the Intruder is wasted on a machine that can only do straight lines. I prefer the MT's ability to keep the sportsbikes in sight while at the same time being able to potter around town with the cruisers - its a true dual purpose bike! | Reply

Now, I'm even more confused. If the beasts were not enough, you brng in Heavy Metal music, another stuff that tingles my senses. It was surprising to know that the Intruder has a short stroke, quite unlike cruisers. Which one would you recommend for a long haul ride? | Reply

feet forward, arms outstretched. Swing your leg over and settle into the low seat, and it is clear that the Intruder is meant for riders who like to throw their chests (and caution) to the wind. The MT-01 is a completely different animal.Car Leasing | Reply

Awesome comparo guys! Something every other mag seemed to have missed out. But I fail to understand why you say: "While a cruiser posture might sound like a strange idea for a bike that produces such insane amounts of torque...". Isnt a cruiser supposed to do that? Loads of torque for comfortable all day cruising? | Reply

You are right about this Nagendra but Priyadarshan probably got carried away with the torque havign jumped on to the bike straight from his Karizma! I ride an MT01 regularly and can say categorically that its torque talks loud but safe and sure for our riding and roads. I had the option to buy the R1 but I decided to go for the MT01 and in every sense of the term barring the slow speed crouched crawl in front of college gates does the MT01 trump the R1. | Reply

Lucky you Adil! Having to choose b/w the MT01 and the R1. Would love to be in such a dilemna :) But yeah, your reasoning makes sense. Thanks! | Reply
