Maruti Suzuki Swift
There are not many other hatches in the Indian market that carry a 'performance' image as gracefully as the Suzuki Swift. With a gem of an engine in the 1.3 litre four pot petrol, the Swift is good for 87 PS and 166.12 km/h (The Swift Diesel 1.3 JTD churns out 75 PS)
. When it was launched in 2005, the Swift was a fresh new design - nothing like what India had seen before. Almost four years on, the Swift now shows its age - a bi-product of its own success. With the countless Swifts plying on roads today, the car's shape has started to evoke monotony more than excitement. The car still holds solid brand value though and then there's also that enticing diesel option that is racking up a major chunk of the sales.
On the downside, the Swift does lack in interior space - especially at the rear. Then there are also slight build quality issues with the car starting to develop squeaks and rattles earlier than you'd expect it to. But then it's a Maruti after all - which means a big plus point in after sales service and cheaper running costs. At Rs 5.27 lakh (fully loaded, ex-showroom Delhi) it's pretty competitively priced too - which is why it continues to remain the leading choice in the segment. |
