Toyota Land Cruiser

The Land Cruiser has been in the product pipeline with Toyota Kirloskar Motors for some time now, and there has been speculation as to when it would finally arrive in India. The wait has finally come to an end, for TKM has finally taken the wraps of the all new Land Cruiser.

The new Land Cruiser happens to be the 8th generation model that is sold worldwide. Its reputation as the original bad boy of the SUV brigade, thanks to its ability to take to dunes, riverbeds and wadis, is known by all. Furthermore, the Land Cruiser also comes fitted with a host of creature comforts and knick-knacks that cater to the needs of the well - heeled making it a formidable package both on and off the road.

Powered by a large 4461cc V8 engine that is capable of churning out 282 bhp @ 3600 rpm and a killer 650Nm of torque between 1600-2900 rpm, the Land Cruiser is any driver's delight. The power not only translates to great off-roading usage, but also makes this Cruiser rather quick on the tarmac. Incidentally the Land Cruiser is capable of touching the 100km/h mark in just 8.2 seconds!

Ford Endeavour

With the launch of the Land Cruiser, TKM is now set to take on the German brands, namely the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz M Class, Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg and the BMW X5, ,which have been dominating the premium SUV segment till now. The competition is stiff, there is no doubt about that, but only time will reveal whether the original Bad Boy of the SUV brigade will rule the roost.

The Land Cruiser is available in two versions priced respectively at Rs 81.64 lakh and Rs 83.11 lakh (ex showroom, Thane). Though both versions are completely kitted out, the difference of price is mainly due to the addition of a moonroof and a high end music system in the higher priced variant. All other features remain the same.

Land Cruiser Prices (ex showroom, Thane)
Land Cruiser V8
Rs. 81,64,000/-
Land Cruiser V8 (with moon roof & high end music system)
Rs. 83,11,000/-

guys if you dont like the price dont buy it is very simple...but ffs dont compare the Q7 or merc with LC, the two very different leagues. The only car comes near to LC is Nissan Partol...if you really want try tough off road join a off road club in countries like Australia n see how LC is different than other suvs...i have LC n RAV-4 ...i have to buy a anohter car n thought of hummer coz of its looks...but after test drive decided nah LC is best and i dont settle for second best...so guys this is your choice buy it or leave it and go for second best....hope this helps.. All is fine. But why is Toyota introducing an older model. This model has already been stopped. Check Toyota UAE or US sites for the latest model. But thanks for bring a diesel version | Reply

So I was looking at Audi Q5. It costs $38000 US dollars which translates to 17 alkhs but guess how much it is going to be priced in India for 45 lacs to 50 lacs..This is insane...outrageous. Is somebody ever going to do something about it. | Reply

INDIA GOVERNMENT ARE KILLING INDIAN CITIZENS WITH HIGH TAX ON IMPORTING AUTOMOBILE,IT IS BETTER TO LIVE OUTSIDE INDIA WITH LUXURIOUS CARS AT CHEAP PRICE,SO LAND CRUISER ETC ARE OURS DREAM CAR FOREVER.SO WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO USE TATASAFARI ,SCORPIO ETC AS OUR LUXURY VEHICLES...... | Reply

This is the toyota VXR version V8 it costs roughly 260,000 - 270,000AED in UAE which is equivaent to 30-35 lakhs in india, but mind you the same car in india would cost more that double due to the taxes's etc.I would say 70-75 is reasonable. And moreover, there are no SUV that can compare to the LC for its off roading capabilities except the Lad Rover LR3 and Nissan Patrol. I pity people who commented saying a ford endeavour or a scorpio is a better deal. Man! What are you comparing here a kittten and a Lion!!! ridiculous | Reply

I have the newLexus version of the Land Cruiser called Lexus LX 570 here in US. While its the best 4x4 SUV in my opinion, I feel its very pricy by even US Standards. I would order via the internet from US and have it shipped to India. This would save you lots of money. | Reply

I will buy Mahindra Scorpio or TATA Safari. You can buy DOZEN for the money you need to buy only one Land Cruiser. Not worth it. Tata Safari is a cool car. Mahindra scorpio mHawk with 6 speed auto is much more practical car.Thank you Toyota for helping Tata and Mahindra. (I currently own Toyota RAV4 4WD in US and its a good vehicle. But 81L price in india doesn't make sense at all to me) | Reply

Buy it in USA for $35,000 (pre-owned and certified with 3 year warranty) and ship it to India!India price should be under 40 lakhs, even after factoring the additional taxes.I personally prefer the Lexus LX-470 full size SUV which I own....it is amazing! | Reply

I think it is only worth to buy this SUV from Toyota if the high pricing is due to tax structure, else it is not worth it as u have better SUVs available at half the price. | Reply

Toyata is cheating the people in India,Here in Saudi Land Cruiser are used by general public like cart van. And in this world when GM collasped, Toyata will meet the same fate if they think they want to milk indian so that they can fight recession. I am using latest model LC I donot find any big advantage or comfort. I donot understand why the hell one should pay fourtimes more then the world market price. Even we cannot call it as state simbol. Though it is very practical and useful but not at that price. | Reply

is this any kind of madness being displayed by Toyota Kirloskar? the pricing in India is so high that it can make even a lunatic laugh. This is sold at lesser than half the price outside India. What a shame..what do you think we are...you launch anything with a big price tag and we will go for it..never | Reply

For all those people cribbing for price of the product, does anybody have any idea as to what is the rate of taxes on these vehicles as excise and duty, and moreover this is THE BEST of the lot ! Trust Me ! For everyone to know even the BIGB owns and drives one ! | Reply

its a great car no doubt and I have been driving it for years in various countries around the world but unrealistically priced for India, the top end should be priced between US$63,000-US$92,000 not more than that; well I dont know about the duty structure of INDIA as it comes in CBU | Reply
  • Vijay (09 June 2009 17:34)
In the US, this 2009 model is available for 60000 dollars, that means 27L rs. What has Toyota done to justify such a ridiculous price. They havent even shifted the steering wheel to the other side. Anyone who buys it must be a complete foolish. | Reply

On what fuel Indian version of LandCruiser runs? Pl. notify. There is no doubt about the capabilities, It's the only passenger vehicle which can take upto 45 degree gradients. It has got all stiffened metal around it, but 80 lakhs, no way and not worth....Why don't they get a Highlander diesel version?? | Reply

Toyota Kirloskar, we are really angry - this is the most foolish pricing done for any vehicle launched in India. Too much greediness - thus you are all will never be able to compete with any existing SUVs such as BMW, Porshce, Audi or Merc as no body will even consider you because of the price. We are really upset ? What a shame ? No body should by this SUV till they reduce the price by half. That is. | Reply
  • pradeep siddharth (09 June 2009 15:59)
What the hell - 81 lakh rupees for what ? Here in Dubai this is costing only 140,000 Dirhams roughly maximum 20 lakh rupees. This is totally rubbish and absolute greediness from Toyota Kirloskar. They will have to dump all these vehicles. No one is going to buy this product. Even Q7 and Porsche Cayenne is sold at cheaper prices. This is the height of greediness. Infact Toyota should have put around 23 -25 lakh for its Prado and 35 -38 max for its land cruiser. No doubt we don't see any prados compared to CRVs or so. They have crossed all the limits by putting such an astronomical figure for this SUV. It is only a very popular SUV nothing else . It has no technological advancement when compared with a Q7. This will be the biggest flop by Toyota. What they are thinking about Indians. We all will die for you at whatever prices you sell it. This is an absurd thought from you. | Reply
