| The three Mitsubishi Cedia Sports handled by the three couples performed flawlessly and the teams were all praise for the way they were able to do everything in the ten days on the road in literal comfort without being taxed physically. The torquey engines and their punchy driveability was truly the one detail which helped them cover long distances while the highly manoeuvrable capability of the car was another ingredient which came to good use for all three, especially as all of them did make their way through some of India's most teeming cities and also roads wie enough to just allow one vehicle to pass through.
The winners were announced by Mr. Y.V.S Vijay Kumar, Executive Vice-President & SBU Head, Chennai Car Plant, Hindustan Motors Ltd. who congratulated the three finalists on their successful sortie on the route of their choice and along with Dr Bhaskar Das, marketing head of the Times of India, handed Radhika and Bharath the winner's cheque of Rs one million (ten lakhs), probably the largest purse in any form of motoring competition in the country. Judging by the fact that over 6,99,393 plus unique visitors have hit the Great Driving Challenge site to date and with over seven and a half million page views as of yesterday, to say that the event was an unqualified success would be just stating the obvious! The plans for the 2010 edition of the Great Driving Challenge will be announced soon. Watch this space. |
