One of the finest cycle-maker in the world, Trek Bicycle Corporation, is a force to reckon with in the pedaling word. Their latest offering in India, the Trek Fuel EX 5.5 is a thoroughbred trail-riding model aimed at intermediate riders who wish to perfect the sport and progress to the professional level. Fuel EX 5.5 is a great way to get the hang of a full suspension trail bike at an affordable price-point. Ideal for weekly trail-riding excursions, the Fuel EX 5.5 comes with a host of features that boost its ability to take on some real harsh terrain.
Capable of handling intermediate level of trail riding, the Fuel EX is a do-everything bicycle that offers comfortable riding posture and great parts quality. The frame is built out of Trek's premium aluminum alloy, Alpha Red, which is high-grade aluminium that has been hydroformed and converted into tube shapes to get the best possible strength without increasing the weight of the frame. The sturdily built lightweight aluminium frame is available in sizes ranging from 15.5" all the way upto 21.5"and it is built to tackle whatever the rider throws at it.
The 120mm RockShox Tora front telescopic forks get a TurnKey lockout mechanism and the suspension is proficient in dealing with rough trails and hard riding. The Float RP-23 rear suspension from Fox with a Boost Valve smoothens out the ride to a great extent and provides precise feedback about traction available and the road conditions. The most striking upgrades to the 2010 model includes Trek's Active Braking Pivot (ABP) system for improved distribution of forces under rigorous braking, which was missing on the last year's model. The new model also gets the much-appreciated alloy Evo-link mechanism and Full Floater rear suspension.
The M475-L wheel hubs are from Shimano while the rims are from Bontrager's Ranger series. Stopping power comes from Juicy 3 hydraulic disc brakes on both ends and they have sufficient bite to bring the Fuel EX 5.5 to a quick halt. The Bontrager XDX tyres are sticky but have a tendency to wear out more quickly under hard use. All this equipment significantly contributes to the Fuel EX 5.5's dexterity in handling rough terrain minus any sort of drama or hiccups. Add to that Trek's Lifetime Frame warranty and the Fuel EX 5.5 is just the right thing to upgrade to if you are intent on taking the sport of mountain-biking and trail-riding more seriously.
