Tata Indigo Manza launched at Rs 4.8 lakh!

Team ZigWheels 14 Oct 2009

From Rs 4.93-Rs 6.75 lakh, Tata Motors has ensured that the much awaited Indigo Manza will indeed sell like hot cakes!

It's a great car - a full blown sedan with loads of space and some very enticing engine options that include not only a sweet 1.4 litre petrol mill, but also the awesome 1.3 litre Quadrajet diesel.

But there's something about the Indigo Manza that's even better than the powerplant and the space, in fact, better than the whole car itself - it's the price tag! Tata Motors launched the car today and has caused quite a bit of a stir with the entry level Aqua variant with the Safire90 petrol engine costing only Rs 4.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)! From there to the top of the line Indigo Manza, the car is offered in four variants - the others being the Aura, Aura ABS and the Aura+. Buyers will have the option of choosing between the Safire90 petrol engine and the Quadrajet90 diesel engine for each of the four variants with the top of the line Aura+ Quadrajet90 variant priced at just Rs 6.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Manza

For that price tag, besides the cavernous interiors, you also get features like a driver information system, a 2 DIN music system which supports USB and Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, ABS, Dual front airbags, colour changing tachometer needle which turns red when the car revs to the redline, engine immobilizer and central locking based on the variant of the Manza in question. The Indigo Manza also comes with a 2 year and 75,000 km warranty. Tata Motors is geared up to sell the car through 493 sales points across 401 towns in the country. Tata Motors seems to have gotten the formula for success spot on with the Manza as they've not only given the Indian customer a good car, but have priced it extremely competitively as well - an attribute which quite a few manufacturers tend to mess up. No wonder that Tata Motors has been among the best selling manufacturers in the Indian market for all these years and with the Indigo Manza, that trend is set to continue!

manza is a better choice with world class engine and nice interiors and whole lot of features at a low price . Dezire is a nice car but bad design, average interiors and herd following attitude due to waiting period. waiting doesnt mean car is great.I20 is overpriced. moreever hyundai cars are over priced if u compare size etc with other sedans in the sane category. | Reply

One of the best cars to hit Indian roads, ever since Henry Ford invented the automobile!! Kudos to Tatas in getting out the Manza. I just bought a Aura ABS (top-end petrol model) and it's fantastic! I always had Indigo, and find it much better than ANY other car in the market.Best value for money! Why would anyone go for a cheapo car like Logan for a higher price? Or those weird-looking alien craft Maruti (Ritz) or Hyundai (I20) or Chevy (Beat) come up with? Only car at 7 Lacs (on road, Mumbai), which can boast of all the features Manza has. If your budget is 6-7 Lacs, and you buy any other car, well, buddy, I'll pay for your admission to a mental asylum!! | Reply

It is Ganesh again, quite unfortunately when I said to my friends that I brought Manza, they stared at me for sometime and asked me if I am spelling Mazda wrongly. But on seeing the car, they were amazed. Tatas need to improve their marketing strategy. Atleast they need to improve their ad policy if not delear campaigns in campus of s/w companies. Maruti and Hyundai does it regularly. I am sure that Maruti and Hyundai would reduce the prices if Tatas start aggressively marketing Manza and Vista. | Reply

Hi, I took my Manza yesterday. I currently own a M800, and it is a huge leap for me to Manza Aqua S90. I like the car for all it's features, but for the pick-up which is sluggish in the 2nd gear, and the poor visibility of the speedometer. I like it a lot for the extremely smooth engine (need to see the RPM meter to know if the engine is running or not), smooth gear shifts, powerful AC, enormously large legroom. It would have been better if Manza had got EPS like swift. The HPS makes the steering bit rough. "A Pillar" could have been provided for visibility like in SX4. It is feature rich compared to DZire as it comes with Front power windows, music system, auto lock, central locking system. I clocked a max of 90KMPH, and didn't feel any vibration at all. I fear to cross 90 as it is a new car. | Reply

I have been following this thread for sometime and finally thought of sharing my thoughts too. I bought Manza Aura petrol in Jan and I have been riding in Bangalore. I surprise even after so much of good reviews and hype I dont see many Manzas on road (esp in B'lore not sure about other cities). Anyway coming to the review:- Good features no doubt, spacious, looks are OK.- Now I realized why some reviews says 'Dull to drive'. I can feel, it is very dull to drive. No pick up at all in second gear. I learnt driving on Dezire and I was quite comfortable with my driving, enjoyed and never stopped the engine in traffic. But with Manza, I felt very difficult to drive in traffic initially. It used to stop in traffic (I should confess I am a decent driver). The mileage is also not great it is giving 8.5 kmpl (prob I am new to drive?).- Music system could be better. But I love Bluetooth feature. It is very useful. - I am done with first service of my car. I didn't face any problem with service. The experience was smooth. If your requirement is more features and comfort go for it. If you are looking for great driving and handling experience, I wouldn't recommend it. | Reply

with its aerodynamic and relatively efficient engine, there were seemingly a lot of people willing to trade quality for quantity. in terms of other features such as its suspension, it helps you have a lot of confidence behind the wheel with the adjustable steering wheel and powerful brake drum enough to reach triple speed without being disconnected from the road. | Reply

Dear baskey, You can't compare stylish and innovative Honda Jazz with old banger Manza. Even blind person will tell you that it is just slight change in the body lines on top of ugly Indigo. Nothing innovative here, just cheap car with same chasis and body but with different sticker. Any descent garage can modify Indigo and make it look like Manza, or even better. You are very unfortunate that you have not seen actual premium car worth 35 Lakhs, thats why you are talking like this. Ignorance is bliss.35Lakh car (Merc and BMWs) have traction control, ABS, 6-8 Airbags, separate AC for each seat, very smooth drive and powerful engine. Confused ? Heard of any of above terms before ? If not, you are better of riding Auto Rickshaw then. | Reply

SREENIVAS (09 January 2010 10:56) Reply to Sidhanshu Kale
Dear Sidhanshu Kale, I very much agree with you. When an average indian is thinking about buying a car he is looking for a good big car with the least price tag. I have also seen many TATA cars in metro cities which it self says even rich and educated have choosed a TATA car after thorough research. I personally feel that space is very important for me when am travelling with family and also friends. Every car if driven properly and maintained well in single hand gives good return on investment. Pesonally i prefer comfort for all the occupants than just be satisfied with the 4x4 name tag on the exterior. If a buyer is looking for name tag then he should certainly not complaining about the price. I will certainly suggest people with small pockets, to be level headed and not to buy rich peoples thought and cars and go with TATAs. Which cars offer you huge space and great safety ( solid frame ) at such a pitiable price. TATAs are making good cars even the lower middle class can afford. Evaluate all your options and go for the car that suits your budget ( think cost, maintainence, cost of spares, after sales service, mileage, safety of occupants ( not much in cities with congested roads) after sales ( middle class keep cars for a decade ). Iam a middle class guy who is concerned about intial cost, comfort of all passengers, and certainly am not thinking about resale value. I GO WITH TATA CARS. LONG LIVE TATA CARS AND THEIR FUTURE MODELS. | Reply

Suggest that you also look at premium hatch back as an option on account of bumper to bumper traffic and shinking parking space.i20 fm Hyundai and Polo fm VW (coming early 2010) and Punto fm Fiat offer about 300 litres boot space which is quite sufficient for most occasions. With these hatchbacks you will also get good FE. | Reply

Manza will change the rule of the game and all other companies will bite dust. I am a great fan of FIAT but the problem is they dont produce anything cheap. Good that the engine is of FIAT and price is that of TATA. This car is going to change the future of car industry. | Reply

Manza : For a car that’s trying to be contemporary in looks, finish and performance, the pricing is high especially for the diesel version.Swift dezire is a proven car though the front side looks are awful for me and depends on the individual. In fact, in this segment of entry level sedans, there’s lot of scope for new players.I feel tata’s pricing will be a deterrent for selling their diesel version and their petrol needs a better engine with better characteristics and mileage. | Reply

MANZA has rocked the boat and created a flutter by setting a cat among the pigeons !! One only hopes that the Internal fittings are of very good quality - an aspect totally ignored in the VISTA launched a year ago. I wish the MANZA carried the FIAT Gearbox too. Its a waiting game and one should decide after 2-3 months on the MANZA or for that matter any other car. Wait for reviews | Reply

Dear Dhananjay, I'm contemplating to buy Manza Diesel. Some of my friends have had a bad experience with TATA cars, but yours seems to be totally opposite. As a matter of fact, any car of any make may give trouble to its owner, and TATA should not be exclusively made a scapegoat for such reasons. Do you strongly recommend a TATA? How much is your daily usage with this car? Thanks for all your inputs. | Reply

I have used them in rough conditions and still enjoying. This car is really good and will pinch the other manufacturers. For that matter Tata's are climbing at great pace. Sharique- you need to have clarity of thought as what do you want and what can you buy. We want the fastest car, most jazzy loaded with latest tech etc etc. The list is never ending but when it comes to pay and buy we take a back seat. We criticise every thing. Have you ever compared other cars? If no then do not talk like this. Be realistic and not some one with little or no knowledge about what is being offered at what price. | Reply
Stark Vasdev (02 November 2009 00:54) Reply to Sharique
Sharique, will it be right to put France and Afghanistan in the same league? Then don't put Japanese and Korean cars in the same league. Secondly, what will a Korean manufacturer charge for the car of same specs? and everybody knows what Japanese charge? If any manufacturer offers you something, it charges accordingly. No one is offering a car of this size and comfort with a comparable price tag. Tata knows what Indian market wants. It has proved this many a times. | Reply

Hello All,I am new to the forum; but found lots of unnecessary comments about patriotism and other luxury cars. I have been to many countries drove almost all sort of vehicles SUV, MUV, Sedan, RAM kinda trucks. Now let me speak something technical. I found TATA motors interesting after NANO and thereafter following every vehicle very closely.Today I personally examined MANZA in showroom. There is remarkable and new standard set by TATA motors in India with amazing price tag. I really appreciate the team to keep the COST well checked loaded with almost all features.1) Best thing I found is integral telescopic motorized headlamps. Its really well articulated with tangential curve of the body. Exterior is well designed.2) During test drive; I found traction of vehicle really good at corners. Guess road testing guys doing good job. Car well behaved at 90kmph sticking to road surprising at corners in top speed3)Always I had in mind TATA interiors are bad; but MANZA changed my opinion. Its really good my friends4)Most of you would have observed about this LUMBAR support provided. hats off for this feature; I miss this feature even in European cars sometimes. Its missing in maruti also I guess. Correct me If i am wrong5)Almost DZIRE and MAZA are utmost the same but truly speaking I feel value for money is MANZA with really sedan look. DZIRE having front and back Japanese design like toy6)I became fan of this car when I sat in passenger seats; lots of acres of leg room much comfort and I felt I have well accommodated as if I am in sitting in Honda Civic7)Paint quality is improved but peers like FORD and GM are good in paint quality8)Saffire | Reply

Now one can say Tatas has really made into luxury sedan segment..Indigo Manza is a true sedan vehicle with all desirable comfortable features , though still it is lagging behind in engine power. Manza will definitely give serious competition not only to Accent, Verna, Feista but also to City which is always one notch above all these cars... Though Manza has acclaimed Qudrajet Diesel and Safire Petrol , it less powered than its other friends in the stable like City | Reply

well I for sure wudnt agree on it.how many cars actually see 100,000 km.. so the figure is more of a gimmick..I have seen tata indicas in gurgaon which have done over 450,000 km .. YES..half a million and still averaging 18km /litre of diesel..if u want to see yourself..ask any Indica cabbie in NCR about the kilometers covered by his ca.. and more often than not u will see figures > 1 lakh km..and then ask them abt the amount spent on maintenence..that will be a pittance..these are not text book examples I am giving you..but real world cases that can be verified by anyone..So quality compromise--i dont AGREE..lack of refinement and finish is something tata can definitely work on. | Reply

The engine is different in petrol version. For diesel I agree they should have launched it on 1.6L engine. This is something called herd behavior, as also lack of common sense. When you are spending a lot of money in adding a boot, why not spend a little more in changing the front look as well (and it can be achieved at very little cost by changing just the headlamps, bumper and front grille). Both Maruti and Tata did this mistake. They should understand that in India car is a status symbol as well, so customer will be ready to pay more if his/her sedan looks different from a hatchback. | Reply

Gurmeet, I have actually taken a calliper and checked the panel gaps on Tata Indica. The left and right widths dont match. Tatas are always known for making poor quality cars, they are good in truck making only. And as far as Swift goes, people who really buy swift buy it for its driving pleasure which is sorely missing from any other hatchback in India and that includes Tata hatches as well. I have taken my swift to places you probably could only imagine, mountains, beach sands and Mumbai floods and what not. Tip Top !!!!!!!!!!

When you have 2 cars from the same family, they will look similar. Look at the Swift and the Dezire. Maintaining such similarities helps bring down the cost for the end customer. Have you noticed the speedo cluster in the Manza? It is not centrally located as was done in the Vista. Tata is not being as lazy as Suzuki was for the Dezire. Do you know that they did not bother to do any structural engineering when they created the Dezire from the Swift. Tata at least keeps improving on its earlier models. | Reply

i would say,it looks better than DZire, but not as good as Linea. if u look at the side profile of the DZire and Swift, then u will see that only after the C pillar things are different. Otherwise till the A plllar, the lenght of the bonnet, the angle of windsheild are exactly the same as Swift and that doesnt look great, especially in a sedan. Now take the Manza, the bonnet definitely looks longer than that of Vista and suits a sedan. But take the Linea now,u just cant see the Grande Punto in the Linea, whereas u can still see the Vista and Swift in the Manza and DZire respectively. So it would have been so much better if TATA would have done something similar with Manza like what FIAT did with Linea. But still, its a huge improvement over the previous gen of Indigo and i hope that TATA gives us something much better in the Indiva or the new Safari. | Reply

Not a question of buying inferior quality Indian products. Indian products are in no way inferior to others. Today I drive a Ford Fiesta-and it preforms prefectly, I feel I have already recovered the cost I am paying for the Ford Fiesta. | Reply

My story on "Be Indian Buy Indian" has a much better ending that yours. Tata has been churning out improved products on every iteration. The fact that taxi companies choose a car speaks a lot of good about the vehicle. We Indians are not at all nationalistic unlike the Germans, Americans, Japanese and the Koreans. These 4 groups of people will only buy cars from their country. This has to a great extent helped nurture the car industries in their countries. Look at the Proton in Malaysia, it managed for some time with govt. subsidies but once the trade tariffs were removed based on the ASEAN accord, the car floundered. Comparatively Tata is doing quite well. | Reply

the real thing looks so much better than Muntaser's rendering.....hats off to TATA, its still not the best looking mid-sized sedan.....but they have done a good job....lets hope they keep improving especially the build quality | Reply

Agree to what u say Sunil... This by far looks one of the best sedans by TATA, and i'm quite hopeful, that this vehicle will perform good like the others in this category. | Reply

It has become fashion to state the Tata Cars do not have good finish. People see Tata car with a pre-programmed mind and try to see what is not good in that. It is absurd to state that Tata cars have high maintanance cost. If so, there would have, no so many Indicas, used as taxis in almost all Indian cities. We have seen, Indicas are running day and night and subjected for very harsh conditions. But even then they are most economical to run. Japanese always feels, whatever product they do, it is best one. I do not say that we should do the same. But at least we should look Indian made products, with impartial eyes without any prior notions. I have seen many reviews stating that Indigo like a truck. Just because Tatas also make trucks, it is not a proper language to use. | Reply

I agree with you!!! and ppl must remember that TATA not only make trucks but also very sophisticated things TITAN, TIMAX and very important TANISHQ. and more over the whole money remains in India doesnt go out of country.... Thanks Tata | Reply

indica runs in taxi coz this car runs on "jugaad"..any day go to any highway, u'l find an indica with its bonnet open, standing on side of the road..i can say tatas are bad car makers coz i bought an indica vista just thinking that its a good car | Reply
Only Three (15 October 2009 20:14) Reply to aditya
Aditya, when you have a few lakh indica taxi's on the road doing a few lakh kilometers a month you are bound to see a few bonnets standing open. If you drill down to the number of kilometers it ran compared to your owner driven maruti/hyundia cars you will realize that it is standing tall among the competetion. Hats off Tata for the workhorses you have created. | Reply

I completely agree to your views. WE all should bcome ambassador or all Indian brands wherever we go in the world. If we ourselves keep on blaiming to our own companies then its a seld distructing act. See the examples of japanese, Americans,Britons....Believe in our companies. Long live TATAs.Thanks ..... | Reply

I await a full test report. Tata fit and finish is the second worst after mahindra... also Tata cars may be cheap to buy but are expensive to maintain.I think by 2015 Tata would be able to improve the quality... | Reply

utter rubbish. I suggest to go to a proper driving school. Dont drive tata sedans as SUVs. just the way one applies a disk brake as hard as drum brake in bikes, the indians.add a spoiler to your tata car and see the enhanced handling and maintenance free ride. | Reply

As an Indica (Diesel-DLS) owner since 2001, while I agree with your comment on fit and finish, I totally disagree on the point they Tata cars are expensive to maintain. I have found Indicas (mine, and those of my friends) to be very competitive vis-a-vis any other car, even Maruti, on maintenance costs. And, I also find Tata cars very reliable. But yes, the finish needs loads of improvements. 'hope Manza provides this much needed refinement in finish. | Reply

My 2003 DLS is very cheap to maintain. I have never had any starting problem even after not using it for over 3 months. Yes it has low pulling and fit and finish can be improved. | Reply

I use a 2004 Indica DLS...it is CHEAP...read very very cheap to maintain this car. My monthly running is in excess of 2000 kms. My mileage with AC is 15, without 18-21...Total Maintenance cost per month...250 ruppees...beat that...
