Royal Enfield Bullet Classic thumps in!

Team ZigWheels 04 Nov 2009

Buying a Bike? Get a Best Deal

Bulleteers rejoice! The new retro-modern Bullet Classic has been launched with the 350cc Twinspark and the all-new 500cc unit-construction engine!

Royal Enfield has launched its retro thumper, the Bullet Classic. The bike that harks back to Enfield's classic British motorcycle design has been launched with two engine options. The Bullet Classic 350 will come fitted with the same engine that was seen on the Thunderbird TwinSpark, with unit construction and a carburetor. The variant will cost Rs 98,000 ex-showroom Delhi. Accompanying it will be the Bullet Classic 500, which will come fitted with RE's internationally available 500cc fuel-injected unit construction engine. The Bullet Classic 500 has been priced at Rs 1.24 lkah, ex-showroom Delhi.

The design of the bike will be its obvious USP, with its simple and sensuous lines, and that smartly upswept exhaust. Vintage bike cues abound on the Classic, with its spring loaded split seat, thigh pads, headlamp hood and old Royal Enfield graphics on the tank. Modern elements that will add to the practicality of the bike are present too, like the gas-charged shock absorbers. A shift from 19-inch wheel to 18-inchers will also allow riders to choose from a larger variety of aftermarket tyres.

We will be testing the bike soon, so hang tight for a complete road test here on www.ZigWheels.com!

Hi, I read all your comments and many of you are wrong, i own a classic 500 and it is an amazing bike, its the best bullet so far, The thump is amazing with the optional silencer. It can reach a max of 130 kms/hr which no other bullet can, the initial pick up and the torque are amazing, if you are planning between 350 and the 500 go for 500 cuz 350 has the thunderbird twinspark engine. Yo will never have to kick the classic 500 as it does not have the usual amp meter or the Decomp.. i have been on 3 trips with one trip 700kms straight and there is no preaking problem... You will love this bike. | Reply

Hey man, you have girlfriends and flings and then you meet someone and say "she's the one". its the same with the bullet. You have to love it to get love back. and then it shall be yours for life. How long do the Japanese plastic machines last? 5 years?? No offense but that is the real difference and By the way People who call non bullet riders sissy are not worth talking to. They cannot respect their bikes and only use them for an ego boost. it is not about being macho, it is about loving the ride, your bike and the road. Wanderlust, the call of the wild, you name it. | Reply

Hey Indranil. Apology for Delay response. I hope by now you already got you bike booked. Now answer to your queries.PERFORMANCE.....i am facing some minute issue with the beeps and the alarm system of the bike, but that too only while starting. I can't tell you about 2 seats as i am enjoying it single handedly.Well I have not driven any previous verion of Bullet but few of my frinds who drive from Electra to thunderbird to older 500CC have tested this and man.. their expersion after the ride was something which i cannot explain. One friend who is driving 500CC older model after the test ride say " this bike is baap of all the bullet models".Currently upgraded silencer is not leagel in Delhi( thats what distibutor told me) would be availble on roads by Jan at extra cost of 3000. | Reply

Hi bought classic 500cc on 10th dec'09. It's a great bike no questions about it. But have problems with the battery. Infact from the lot which I got the bike it seems 10 out of the 18 bikes have this problem due to the faulty batteries supplied by EXIDE company and they currently don't have stock to replace the faulty battery. So have to wait for 10 days... :(. The classic 500 cannot be driven without a battery at any point of time. So this seems to be 1 bad point of it.
balaji (25 April 2010 15:37) Reply to Dakshdeep Singh
satya is right there seems to be a battery problem. i got my bike on 7 th of april 2010. the first battery failed in a day' time. the second one was replaced in a day' time by taking it off from a new bike in the showroom. this also went off about a 4 days ago. the waiting time fo these batteries is abt 10 days. this definitely is a problem as of date with classic 500s. but the bike is a beauty on the road.. it just takes to the road like a bull on a rampage.. the pick up and speed is quite amazing can easily tuch 100 without you realising the speed..

It comes with 2 seats and a gaurd. That is included in the standard pricing and no extra payment for that (atleast in Mumbai)You can get the solo look by removing the rear seat and get the new silencer as well. | Reply

Bullet is an icon and will be an icon. Its thump is unbeatable and the bullet followers will remain its followers for a long time to come. I own a Honda Shadow 750cc sports cruiser. Before you start ranting and panting about a Honda...you should know that at the end of the day, it is just not passion which drives the bike, its the bike itself too. British bikes like norton and triumph have come a long way...why is RE still way behind? It is to India what Harley is for the americans...they love it inspite of the million repairs and high maintenance. Riding it is fun...but there are few aspects of RE which I don't like anymore, after riding a Honda Shadow, is that it is too heavy even with 250cc 's less it feels too heavy and just not quick enough. Yes, is still feel RE is a timeless classic and I still love it...I would love to ride one anytime, but owning it...is where the issue of practicality kicks in... | Reply

This thing sucks ... I'm into classic bikes myself (before u hurl that shoe btw) ... but their ignorance of new technologies is just overwhelming ... they look like they're just sitting there n reaping the genius of their forefathers ... look at bonneville ... same sensual bike it always was but at least more power less emissions improved suspension ... I mean how long can you go turning a blind eye to all this. I own a bullet machismo myself, modified to my taste (I know bullet is a canvas you draw your own personality on) ... but it gets hot and it gets nasty same problems it had 2 centuries ago. Its a great bike but by no means matured. RE claims to be the makers of bikes for the passionate but they're sitting ducks for any new players looking east. wakey wakey sunshine... | Reply

You will never feel the Thump in New Bullets as you feel it in your old bullet... All new bullet are like 100cc or 150 cc bikes, they dont produce good thump atall hence many of the new bullet owners modify their new bike for Good Thump. So my opinion is buy onemore old Bullet (80's to 90's Model) and get the Good thump | Reply

George  (07 December 2009 00:57) Reply to prasad
but still it should have a better mileage as both 350 and 500 classics are twinspark with fuel injection. So naturally mileage needs to go up. In Electra one can get anywhere between 32-40 KMPL. But someone who have bought this will know what they are getting.
Nilabh (23 December 2009 10:48) Reply to prasad
don't behave like Americans. Mileage is not just about saving fuel. Its also about how well the engine is engineered. I love Enfield but that doesn't mean you ignore other things like practicality and environment. And I think enfield has taken some good steps in this direction with introduction of twin spark and Fuel injection. It never hurts to have a modern and efficient power plant.

this bike (royal enfield bullet) is an outdated technology. It should not be even called an urban bike.Go for it only if you are living in some remote village of india where the roads are muddy and uneven.because this bike canot run over 100 km/hr et all even being carrying such a huge engine and it drinks petrol like anything. From the company forget any concept called customer care they do not know what is it.spares are rarely available in the market and service stations are no bettert then road side repair shops. It offers least warranty in the market just 10 000 kms. whereas other modern bikes come with a warranty of 40000 to 60000 kms andbuy it if you want to sho that you have least value for money, after all this is one of the costliest bikes in the indian market. How do I know so much?? 'cause I bought one Bullet Electra 5S just 10 months back and regretting everyday. | Reply

I own 1984 Bullet 350cc and i have driven 105kmph, we reach this figure very easily unlike any other bike which take long time and give lot of vibrations... So as Praveen sharma said You should own a sunny and you will definitely fly on Sunny when a Bullet will go past your sunny at 100kmph... If you dont like your electra give it to me i will buy... | Reply

I agree with Shammi that RE is a third class bike without refinement. Its having strange technological and maintenance problems. It is not a reliable one. I am surprised, why Honda and Yamaha are not trying to introduce such cult bikes with 500cc capacity. I assure that it would be much more advanced and reliable. Otherwise this RE should be snached from Eicher and taken over by Honda or Yamaha or Suzuki. | Reply

The exhaust pipe will not be available on the Indian models. But, to price it as same as the existing models is a good move. Personally, if the retrospective had to be maintained, they should have used right side gear shift. | Reply

Why does RE prefer the reverse gear rather than moving forward? Let bu gones be bygones and look forward guys...enough of this RETRO stuff. Try to invest in something new...like a good v-twin engine for the lovely Thunderbird. It will be an instant hit. Stop these cheap cosmetic jobs. | Reply

Well, retros should be there. But I agree with you. A cruiser Like Thunderbird with a v-twin, Ah! would be ready to trade my car for it! | Reply
