Ritz pricing set to woo Swift buyers!

Sopan Sharma     15 May 2009

Maruti Suzuki Ritz

Maruti Suzuki has lived up to its competitive pricing reputation with the Ritz too. Here's a quick comparison between the pricing of the two cars

It's here, and it's priced almost inch-perfect in the cut-throat A2 hatchback segment. In Maruti Suzuki's crowded portfolio, one car eating into another's share is unavoidable, but the Ritz is expected to do so in a larger way than has happened before.

Variant

Ritz

Swift

Lxi Petrol

Rs.3,90,000/-

Rs.3,99,987/-

Vxi Petrol

Rs.4,20,000/-

Rs.4,36,906/-

Zxi Petrol

Rs.4,80,000/-

Rs. 5,15,223/-

Ldi Diesel

Rs.4,65,000/-

Rs.4,67,924/-

Vdi Diesel

Rs.4,99,000/-

Rs.5,19,833/-

**All prices ex-showroom Delhi

Interestingly, the fully-loaded and urban-oriented Zxi petrol has the largest price differential, of almost Rs.35,000 on the ex-showroom price between the two cars. It is not surprising that Maruti Suzuki is positioning this particular variant most aggressively, given its all-new K12M engine that forms the key differentiator between the Ritz and the Swift. On similar lines, the top-end diesel has a Rs 20,000 price difference, again making the Ritz a more attractive buy for urban families between the two diesels.

While the Swift had grown to be the almost default choice for customers wanting a large and efficient hatchback despite its sporty appeal, the Ritz will offer more in terms of space and practicality to families and is expected to take this particular class of customers away from the Swift. While Maruti Suzuki term the prices as introductory ones, in this present economic climate we can't see these being changed in a hurry.

Nevertheless, what the new set of prices do, is in fact help Maruti Suzuki prop itself up very strongly against the competion and in so doing the job becomes a challenge of sorts for rivals like the Hyundai i20 and the Skoda Fabia to stay within striking distance in the hunt for customers in today's market place.

Yes test drove ZXI petrol. I am 5' 10" tall - found it inconvenient to sit in driver's seat.I did everything to adjust - both steering and seat, but found it still very inconvenient to drive.Yes I concur with the earlier commentators- the blue colour on the dash board put me down too. I am test driving Grande Punto tomorrow 19th.Comments by friends about Punto is encouraging. | Reply

Looks - Very Good Sporty as well as family ; Interiors - Excellent : Mileage - Excellent ; Pricing - Slightly Higher (shud b less Rs. 25k-50k, or increase the price of Swift by this amount, or stop manufacturing Swift SIMPLE) | Reply

Please reduce the price of the Ritz so that there will be a more demand for the car otherwise it is a mere waste investing in this down time | Reply

Folks .. I can't seem to figure out what got into Maruti to give those hideous blue interiors on the Zxi .. The Dashboard has blue inserts and the seat fabric is a lighter shade of blue than that on the V variants .. Anyways the seat color problem can be solved with seat covers .. but the dash .. ugghhBtw .. I saw some pics of the Baker's Chocolate Zxi color on another blog and it seemed to NOt have the blue on the dash .. Can someone confirm .. from the outside the Ritz really looks fabulous in the Choclate but the blue on the inside would spoil it for me | Reply

Look is not digestable. The maker should have learned from the failure of Wagon-R design and looks. | Reply

With more competation in the market the prize of each varient should be lowered down by atleast 25,000/-Rs. Hope maruti don't do the same mistake as they did with the old model Zen by facing out swift. Both are good and it gives options for customers | Reply

if u r compairing ritz with swift, u can go anytime with ritz, ritz is the next generation car with european looks, superb interiors, excellent driving comfort n a luxurious feel while sitting in a car. The gear knob is so smooth and the interiors are so good, the boot space is more den swift, swift is just wider in shape, else evrythng is better and improved in ritz, diesel engines are same in both the cars, while in petrol , ritz has k series engine which gives 18 km per ltr while swift petrol lacks in i. wat all u need in a family as well as sporty car, ritz has al in it. swift is 4 yrs old model, so common everywhere, ritz is something new which is hitting d market, and wil be next swift. | Reply

As the rates of Ritz, i would like to buy Swift instead of Ritz cause Swift is looking more Superior rather than Ritz. Ritz seems to be small car as compare to swift | Reply
  • nitin kumar (25 May 2009 23:46)
ritz an awesome car as compared to comon swift, interiors of ritz are superb, even better den i 20 n fabia, u will enjoy d luxury comfort driving ritz, anytime ritz over swift, as far engine is considered, oetrol k series and diesel same as swift, so no point goin for swift, ritz improved abd better sapce, interioirs, legroom , head space...ritz rocks... | Reply

Price of the car is High compared to swift it has to be reduced at least 50thousand of the actual price. The height of the car is little bit raised compared to swift it should of swift height as well as in width and length.the atenna at the front centre should go by the back centre. rest of those the car simply good not very good | Reply

I had a Test Drive of the Ritz Diesel. In terms of the internal space it is certainly lesser than the Indica Vista, specially the Rear Seating so it’s ideally comfortable for two normal size adults and a Child at the Back seating. For a person as tall as 5.8 ft is on the front seat the leg room is just a bit less, if the seat is moved behind to make more leg room than the person setting behind would not be comfortable. What is most disappointing is the step brotherly treatment given to the interiors and features between the Petrol and the Diesel version. The interior of the Petrol being much better with Duel Tone colors matching the external color, where as the Diesel interior is only Gray/Black with NO climate control AC as in the top end Petrol. No option of Air Bags in Diesel which is available in top end Petrol (Not even Optional). Optional ABS in Diesel Yes at Rs 20000/- which is worth it but with a waiting period is minimum 45 Days. Top end Petrol ABS is optional of default I am not sure. Most Car makers give this step brotherly treatment to Diesel Cars, do they think that people who prefer Diesel have a lack of taste and refinements...They are so wrong and I hope this reaches them and soon.If your priority is internal space and comfort I’d say Indica Vista with the same engine as the Ritz, External looks is your choice as I find both good in their own rights with a few plus to Ritz, Internal looks Indica Vista is good too but Ritz scores better in style and trend (the petrol version). Indica Vista’s dual tone combination is much better than the Grey/Black of the Ritz.In terms of Value for money I’d say Indica Vista as is currently offering free insurance worth Rs 18000/- if purchased before 27th May with Two Years 1 Lakh Kilometer warranty as compared to Maruti Ritz at 2 years 40,000 Kilometer warranty only. No ABS option in Indica Vista which is sad. Drive wise both are good with both weighing around 1100 Kilos. Hope my option Helps. | Reply

it is almost similar to swift rate it should have been some where on 3.70lacs-3.75lacs so it would have been good competative rate | Reply

When compared to Swift, Ritz doesn't come cheap, Ritz is eligible for lesser exise duty norms (4>meter long and engine should be of<1200cc) Swift gets higher duty as it uses 1300cc engine. It is priced on par with Swift but eligible for lesser duty. It is definitely not cheap as it seems. | Reply

Check your facts sir b4 you get into analysis which is meaningless.the price difference between the diesels is just 3k.no point in comparing the price of ritz vdi with swift vdi abs.Yes,the zxi is 35k less, but,it also doesnt have auto climate control.looks like maruti is trying to push the market towards its own petrol engine by pricing it attractively vis a vis the swift petrol.the fiat origin diesels are pretty much even pegged. | Reply
