Reva NXR

Final Word

Reva expects to launch the NXR on the domestic and international markets by January 2010 while the NXG is being tooled up for series manufacture from January 2011. Reva has just two dealers in the country at present but it hopes to have as many as 30 by the first quarter of 2010. Prices have yet to be announced but the crazy thing is that the future for Reva right now lies in Europe where not just incentives for clean zero carbon motoring are manifest but also importantly the infrastructure for large scale electric car usage is being deployed. Will some progressive folks in the government and the bureaucracy wake up and give this all-Indian outfit a hand? Will taxation be made friendlier for such vehicles? Lets hear it for real rather than just indulge in real politicking! Motoring in India needs a fresh charge and maybe everyone can pitch in to make things electrifying.

    What good is a tesla if it is too costly to own. Proud that some indian was able to make a functional model when all others are struggling to get one to road. Govt as always keeps napping and ignores to give a helping hand to these trail blazers. | Reply

    I'd go for this car if the price is right ... somewhere in the range of Nano. But I have serious doubts whether the Govt will encourage eco-friendly vehicles in Mera Bharat mahan ... Govt dosent give a damn about the common man .... It is more interested in protecting the huge profits of oil companies | Reply

    The design for the electric car has one flaw, the faux pas grille on the car should go. What is the use of such a grill on a electric car. If it is electric it should be proudly showing it's tech edge, rather than taking the common design line of a front grille, things should be kept functional. | Reply

    Reva has been a loser because of its high price and non existent service centre. If they look at it then there is no doubt that the sales will pick up. Another thing is not understood is that why the NXG model is only for the European Market??? | Reply

    Reva no doubt has been is the best family car for a small nuclear family. Also being an electric car it is pollution free and the only answer for the metro roads where pollution is on an all time high. The high price unfortunately works out to its undoing. | Reply

    They should learn from Toyota prius and stop trying too hard to look cool. Just make the technology viable and provide good clean interior with a robust body structure and the sales will take care of itself. DC tends to overdo everything. They look good as concepts only and not as production cars | Reply

    please... looks could have been much much " descent" for such a show like Frankfurt. Its not a Student car design competition. Its a place where whole world judge about a country's capabilities. So Better not to 'SHOCK" others. | Reply

    Reva is the fabulous car with a fantastic technology.....other companies should try this out n minimize the consumption of Fossil fuels....Indian government should provide Subsidy so that more no of people could buy this...I think its the time to go GREEN....if its not NOW it will never be | Reply

    Will definately buy this model as and when it hits the road in india.And company should do it soon.Besides I fail to understand why govt. does not gives such elctric models excise concessions to attract mass manufacutre of electric cars.Besides saving fossil fuels such cars are enviornment friendly | Reply

I only see rich business men wid big garages having some for the sake of green points...i park my car on the road...where do i charge? At least one knows that the way to a motormouth's senses or lack of it is via is stomach! Amazing the enthu for Indian electric cars. Should spur many to think right.     The cost could be some where in the range of Rs.12Lks for the Li-on battery version of NXR, and close to 5.5 for the LeadAcid Version of the same.Not prett much sure about the NXG version. | Reply

    Thanks God, at last our Indian is doing for the world environment. I have been waiting for such carzs which are non polluting and cost effective. The Government should give tax benefits both for the REVa and the customers as well. I am also waiting for fuel cell technology cars...Hope Shri Adil Jal Darukhanawala will give the car to the middle class people within their budget. | Reply

In doubt whether India is ready yet for electric cars, but I think its a thing of pride for us anyway - a car from a small Indian manufacturer will be making waves internationally. Hope the international audience is not as pessimistic about it as our own firang-car loving commentors here... | Reply

    DC Design and REVA....i never thought of that....wot next a DC designed superNANO? that would be kinda cool....nywayz....I think its awsome the way indian designers are now getting to show their talent on a global platform...thanks to TATA, global companies now look at Indians a lot more seriously and this will undoubtfully open avenues for others. | Reply

    yes Adil i totally agree with u... the problem with our people is they fail to recognise the good work done by our(Indian) companies... but are good at praising the foreign brands for whatever blunder they do. The need of the hour is to see at the positive side of ideas and encourage these bold small steps taken by home grown companies. | Reply

    This is just amazing stuff....if electric cars are going to look so cool..then i wouldn't mind switching over....maybe REVA ought to lead the way and make a range of electric vehicles....I am an SUV fan and if i could get something like an SUV with electric 4x4 drive...woah...i would be like the greenest off-roader around!!! Kudos to DC on his designs though....lovin this stuff! | Reply

    Hey biryani, you seem to have let a load of fat get to your mind. Tesla is surely fantastic but it costs the earth, closer to Ferrari money and here we are talking about masses and cheap mobility. Maybe you need to lay off the bottle and understand that what has been made is a fine beginning, not an end in itself but a start. But then this may be far too simple for you to comprehend. | Reply

    WOW what a bunch of commentators here! Every long journey begins with small measured steps and Reva seems to have taken those. And the gripes and moans about DC is uncalled for. How many designers are there even in the developed world who can do what this company is doing for a fraction of the money? But not being into the mainstream of car manufacturing does extract its own price. And being pioneers Reva and DC have to roll down this route. | Reply

    I'll not only focus on DC design. That's in the same way as few years ago people were saying ARR's music is almost in the same tune. take it Roja, Bombay, etc.If we have to go by what Adil has reported, It's really a Indian World EV.I am apprehensive too as you are. But I'd like to see it personally and review, than comment on DC's and Reva's Capability.We have not yet seen the Interiors and aesthetics which are more prominent part of todays automotive. | Reply
