After Hyundai announcement to unveil the i10 electric at the Frankfurt Motor Show, its now the electric car maker, Reva who has decided to showcase its two more variant of the car in the Motor show- NXR and NXG. The REVA NXR said to be a four-seat, three-door hatchback can be ordered at the show, while the NXG will be a two-seater sports car. The production of NXR would begin from 2010 while the sports car will be produced from 2011. The prices of both the car, however is expected to reveal at the show itself.
"The two cars target two different consumer sets. The NXR is perfect second car, it is automatic, easy to drive, park and safe. It will have optional solar panels on the top," said deputy chairman and chief technology officer Chetan Kumar Maini. "The NXG, on the other hand a complete lifestyle fun car."
By the next year, Reva plans to introduce the NXR in around 24 countries across Europe and Asia. The NXR plugs into a home outlet and will go into production in the first quarter of 2010.
With lithium-ion battery, it can run at a top speed of 104 kmph, more than twice the speed of current Reva and can cover a distance of 160 km per charge.
The sports coupe, Reva NXG or next generation with top speed of 130 kmph, will be able to cover 200 km range per charge. Independent designer Dilip Chabria has played a role in designing the new sportier look.
The strategy to sell the Reva in the international markets, include technology licensing, manufacturing licensing and opportunity to locally assemble the vehicles at a very low-cost.
"We would like to achieve a sales target of 30,000 vehicles in three years," said Mr Maini. This is ambitious considering the company sold just 3,000 EVs in the past eight years.
"With electric vehicles, we are ahead of most of the current big names, as we have 15 years of experience and they are now entering into this space," said Maini.
