Nissan looking to compete with the Nano

06 Nov 2009

Test Drive Nissan X-TRAIL

The world cheapest car- Nano will have competition very soon! If the officials of Nissan are to be believed, it is said that the small car that Nissan is going to build would be in direct competition with the Nano. Nissan small car which is due for launch by March next year in India, Thailand and China simultaneously, would challenge the tiny Tata Nano as "the developing world's car of choice".

The first details of the little auto reveal a game plan lifted from the Nano: fewer - and cheaper parts. First details reveal a plan copied right off the Nano

The small car to be called V will have 20 percent less than the average Nissan and the cars will be made almost totally in their intended markets.

The car which is expected to have a sale figure of one million by 2013, will have a three-cylinder diesel or petrol engine, a 41-litre fuel tank and highly-engineered plastic in place of more expensive and heavier steel and aluminium- a dictum followed by Nano.

Revealing further details, Nissan's engineers say the keys to success are keeping the car's weight down and sourcing 80 to 90 percent of parts locally. Massive global sales and cheap, globally integrated manufacturing are also crucial to profitability.

The new V will have 18 percent fewer parts than Nissan's current compacts. The front seats, for example, will have 50 pieces instead of 85.

Nissan is the world's eighth best-selling automaker and works in partnership with France's Renault, the 10th best-seller, which would make them the fourth-largest automaker globally if combine.

great. its good news to have a japanese engine with locally available components for the rest. Rest assured, engine and servicing should be easily taken care of. Waiting for launch. | Reply
