| Ratan Tata is all set to sweeten the offer for his dream car Nano. The Rs 1 lakh 'peoples car is all set to take you on a long drive as Tata plans to work on improving fuel efficiency of the car further, to help you beat the heat of high oil prices. "New variants of the Nano are under development to meet the environmental and fuel price challenges," Tata told shareholders and said production of the car is on schedule and it would be out towards year-end. At present, Nano promises a fuel efficiency of almost 20 km per litre. "The company's new plant for the Nano in Singur, West Bengal, is expected to go into operation in the last quarter of this calendar year," Tata said amid reports that the upcoming facility is still facing trouble. Tata said apart from generating "unprecedented" response in the domestic market, the car was also getting "enormous interest" in foreign markets. The new variants would be developed keeping in mind the requirement of several international markets, he said. JLR profit at $417 million Tata Motors has reported encouraging numbers for the two British marques Jaguar and Land Rover it bought from Ford. "Their combined volume for 2007 was around 288,000 vehicles. JLR achieved revenues of $14.94 billion for the year ended December 31, 2007. For the quarter ended March 31, 2008, with the launch of XF model by Jaguar in January 2008, JLR business achieved revenues of $4.15 billion (against revenues of $3.54 billion for the corresponding period in 2007) and PBIT of $417 million," the company said.  |
