Mercedes GP reveals its 2010 team colours an shows it off on a 2009 Brawn GP car with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg doing the honours.
The first race of the 2010 season may still be a couple of months away, but the parties have already begun. Mercedes GP has just revealed their 2010 livery albeit on a 2009 Brawn GP car. The actual 2010 contender christened the MGP W01 will be revealed at Valencia on Monday.
The Mercedes GP livery harks back to the true Silver Arrows that Mercedes raced back in the 1930s and there on. History has it that the first Silver Arrow emerged when the 1934 car - the W25 was sanded down the evening before the Eifel race when it failed to meet the 750kg weight regulations by a whisker, thus letting the silver finish of the aluminium bodywork shine through. True to the legacy, the MGP W01 is finished in silver, with faint traces of the team's title sponsor Petronas' bright green streaking out on the wings. A bit of the car's black carbon fibre also peeks through from under the paintwork.
Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg - the team's 2010 driver line up unveiled the livery to a packed audience - themselves dressed Alpinestars overalls in the team's new colours. There's still a while before sponsors get finalized though and expect quite a few more of them to be splattered all over the MGP W01 when it hits the track at Sakhir in Bahrain this March. Nevertheless, it was a historic occasion for the team as a whole and Schumacher fans in particular as they got to see the Emperor in his new clothing ? in a completely different shade than scarlet which we are all so used to seeing him in!
