I think apart from Swift all the models that Maruti offers in its portfolio are exhausted now...after Hyundai defeated Maruti in the small car segment and Honda has done the same in 6L - 9L segment ( SX4 Vs City). Maruti will have to very effciently carry out its research on the INdian market now in order to roll out something new and something different | Reply

HYundai never could defeat Maruti in hatchback sector. Kindly surf the net and understand the facts. It seems that Hyundai pays pen pushers to write such comments. Hyundai defeating Maruti ? Maruti is the indisputed leader in hatchback cars- wagon r, swift, a star all are sold like hot cakes. Hyundai cant even dream of beating Maruti Suzuki. Honda City is a great vehicle ..Honda is a Japanese brand but Korean company Hyundai is well known for its infamous plagiarism. To Mr. S Banerjee. You guys are very very short sighted. You are looking for this gas guzzling SUVs without any care for the environment. You are not only killing yourself but also everyone else and the coming generations. These SUVs not only pollute the air, but also take up unnecessary road space. Most times you will see only a single person driving these big SUVs to office. When countries even like US are now trying to move away from these SUVs, we Indians are getting them more. Shame on us... | Reply
Indi (30 December 2009 14:31) Reply to Sudripta
If SUV's has to be banned then we should definetly ban autos, and many commercial vehicles which is the most responsible for poluution in India and the strange thing is these guys are never punished. | Reply

absolutely idiot. you never look at poor people those are majority in india. many can not even afford two wheelers and they are relied on autos. autos are now cng driven so they dont pollute air much.
AJ (30 December 2009 09:03) Reply to Sudripta
I think this is a very personal view. While people are encouraged to use smaller cars, it is never a case of declaring the SUV as a an outright no no. ITs not these vehicles alone that are causing polution. And which "large" SUV do you have in India anyway? The supposed move to smaller cars in US is also worth noting: Their definition of a small car itself shows where we miss the point. The recently launched Chevrolet Cruze, a fairly large sedan, is being tauted as a "small car" there.Bottom line is: Its not just the size of the car. Its more to do with the underlying technology. | Reply

Why are you all so hung up on liitle toy cars. Maruti should design a CNG hybrid car of about 1600cc full MPV (7 seater) for the India market. Then you all can go and have fun driving long distances with your parents or parents-in-laws. Learn to play with the big boys of other countries who dont drive less than 1600cc. | Reply

Yep. I live in Kuwait. Arab girls aged 16 and 18 burn the roads in their hummers, GMCs, Prados, Dodges and lamborghinis....No wonder.. they can afford the fuel expenses. 1 litre fuel is cheaper than 1 litre mineral water here in this country. Besides, their per capita income is very high.Do you know that only a few of us,Indians own vehicles? We are industrious ambitious people striving hard to materialize our dreams unlike the Kuwaitis or Europeans who are born rich.Dont try to compare our country or our vehicles with other country. Prevailing situations differ. Roads differ. India is unique in all aspects. Stop such illogical comparisons. We do not need big cars here. The maximum speed at which you can travel around here is 60, if you consider the traffic jams and broken roads. Auto rickshaws the primitive vehicles run around and ricksaw men pull their carts...cattle loiter around . India is different , dear friend. | Reply

I dont know about Maruti, but i do sincerely hope that this auto expo witnesses some launches in the compact SUV segment...something like the Premier Rio. You dont want to buy the Rio because of its Chinese pedigree. But if the same vehicle comes from Maruti, Tata or Mahindra, it will be more acceptable. Ford has already gone to the drawing board for such a vehicle. A sub 4m car (ensuring duty benifits) with a 1.2-1.4L diesel and 4/4 priced b/w 5-6L will certainly catch the imagination of the masses who dont buy big SUV's for a variety of reasons. The Gypsy itself is a great option for Maruti if they can give it a facelift, improve the interiors and plonk a decent desiel in its heart. | Reply

yes,the gypsy with a 1.9ltr palio diesel heart would be the best option.but the rear suspension has to be replaced with coil springs and torsion rods or else the passenger sitting on the rear would need spine related attention sooner or later.alternatively they could try a four door design with the same chassis length.i bet it would be the best combination of suv made in india. | Reply

While I think the Esteem was a good car, but you have to realise, every product has a time line. Beyond which, age shows. And cars are no exception. Just as in mobile phones, where a model changes every 1-2 years, cars too need to be replaced. the Esteem had been around for a very long time. Why do they have such ugly names for cars, like Eeco? Is it so hard to find names that sound good? Just calling a car as Eeco does not make it eco friendly; it just gets an ugly name. And why do they have so many models, each of which is unsatisfactory in many ways? Why not bring out just a few good models? Large ugly headlights of cheap plastic material even for small cars. Why? To save money on body material? | Reply

Maruti -Suzuki should venture beyond small hatchbacks and come out with small/mid-size MPVs or a vehicle like the Premier Rio, with diesel options also. The Gypsy hasn't seen much of a change till now. A sleeker diesel variant could be offered with both soft and hard tops. The 'bread box-like' Wagon-R also badly needs just more than cosmetic changes. Diesel versions of SX-4 and Grand Vitara are also overdue. | Reply

Wagon -R is a world hit. Wagon R - sting ray has already made waves in Japan. Wagon R is the fruition of the tall boy concept brought to the world by Suzuki of Japan.Do u know guys, Hyundai Santro was an imitation of the original wagon r that Suzuki launched in Japan. Wagon R entered Indian markets only after its copy ( you may call it inspiration) had been launched by Hyundai. So, stop calling it a bread box. I guess they are gonna launch wagonr sting ray in our country by mid summer. | Reply

Only its past vehicles history denting sales performance3. "not deserve good dashboad and instrumentation despite paying high price for their products" - This is funny, TATA USP is Value For Money. The reason for buying a maruti suzuki is simple, it offers a better quality at a competitive price than its contemporaries. Its resale value is any day better than other cars which is because of the splendid after sales service and cheap spares. Tata's can never match the refinement offered by suzuki. Hyundai cars, after 3 years of running start giving your pocket a real dent. Chevrolet, hugely expensive spares. Its quite clear why wouldn't people still opt for ever trust worthy MARUTI SUZUKI. | Reply

I had similar opinion. I visited RNS motors in Bangalore and they made me wait for 45 minutes to introduce a sales guy to talk about cars. I had decided to buy Swift but when I visited Hyundai showroom the way they treated me made me decide in favor of Hyundai. I bought i10 and I find the car to be too good. Although Maruti as a company is fantastic, their dealers are unprofessional. And the artificial wait period of over a month for Diesel Swift is ridiculous. Hyundai delivers i10 in 2 days flat.

The only unique MPV in India was OMNI for quite some time, but outdated now. So was VERSA for again some time, but people knew Maruti's problems more than skills with this vehicle. My question is if Maruti can think of bringing in KIZASHI to India, why dont they just think something like a Qualis, which can be built over the larger GYMNI platform or what RIO is going to do now, OK, that section is a bit cracked up and fired up now, at least Maruti should bring in a champion's challenge to the table by bringing in a rival for Toyota's INNOVA. And the platform could be any, I think the CULTUS platform is big enough (AKA Altura in India). Enough of small cars already. or may I say, that the people easily understand what is a cosmetic make over now in India ! | Reply
